NBD for me! My Lull M5V arrived on Friday while I was out of town, so this morning I've spent quite a bit of time fooling around with it. Most of the time was spent swapping pickguards and taking photos, but I have had quite a bit of fun playing it, too. Man, it looks, sounds and plays GREAT!!
Mike Lull M5V (Trans Black)
I ordered the bass with several pickguards because I wasn't sure which one would look best to my eye with the trans black finish. Going in, I was expecting White Pearloid to be my favorite... but Tortoiseshell has won the day!

I'm going with the tort guard for now, but I like all of these looks. I'll probably change it up every now and then just to keep it interesting.

Yeah, tort on black with maple is one of the best combos of all time. I need to order a tort guard for my black jazz that Mike plek'd.

I've got my favorite strings on it now (SIT Rock Bright Nickels), and I've played around with the pickup heights a little bit. Gettin' her dialied in just the way I like it before I try recording with it!

Since getting my Lull V4 jazz bass in September, I've been 100% satisfied. Before my Lull, I played a 2010 Fender American Standard Jazz. It was a great bass, but it still didn't quite feel like "my perfect bass." But after getting my Lull, it has without a doubt been my perfect bass. The sound, feel, and look is all perfect, in my opinion. Needless to say, I sold my Fender right after I got the Lull. I can see myself keeping my V4 forever.
Now I'm dying to get a Lull M5V, but it's going to take me a little while to save for one of those. I've never been a fan of 5 strings until recently. I believe having my V4 and an M5V would be all I would ever need. When I do get the money for it, I'm ordering an M5V with an alder body, candy apple red finish, tortoise pick guard, and rosewood fret board. And I'm leaning towards the Aguilar preamp. I just hope the 35" scale won't bother me. I once had a Peavey Cirrus that was a 35" scale, and I could really feel a difference from all the 34" scale basses I've played.

FYI. Alder + rosewood + Aguilar can be dangerous. That's A LOT going on in the 800-1.2khz range that may be overwhelming. Just a thought. Otherwise, CAR =

Would you recommend the Bartolini preamp with the alder and rosewood combo?

Jerry... Er..a.. Vroomvroom will definitely recommend the Bart pre, and I would tend to agree.
The preamp was the only part I was undecided on. I know the Aguilar is around a $200 upcharge from the Bartolini, so that would also save me $200 on the bass by getting the Bart.
On a different note, does anyone happen to know which type of rosewood Mike uses on his standard rosewood boards? If I'm not mistaken, I believe I was told by someone that Brazilian Rosewood is an upcharge.

Brazil is an up charge. I think 400. Could be wrong about that price though. What control layout are you looking at for the pre?
