The Mike Lull Club Part 3

I'd like to get a number. I own several Lulls but here is a photo of me playing my T5. It's "transparent orange" and the output is as hot or hotter sounding than any of my active basses.
BTW, the NRT-5 that has been recently posted will be arriving here within a few weeks. It is "transparent red" and Mike says the balance on it exceeds his expectation. I imagine that's why he took a photo not holding the neck.

I subscribe to the thread and try to pick up new memebers when I can. I've been spending more time on the double bass side since my cover band days are over and I'm trying to learn classical. I still have my PJ5 and V5, though.
And last year I move a Sadowsky to hop on the Lull train. It was a move from J to P land.
Both great basses. Enjoy the Sad.

Just got this beautiful M4V and it has rapidly become my favorite player.
The neck is perfect, sounds great, and I love the color.
I'm officially a Mike Lull fanboy....

I know this is a bit sacriledge, but I wanted mention something in case others were considering.
I swtiched the stock Lindy Fralins on my M4V for Barts, and I'm really happy with the result.
I love the vintage tone of the Lindys, but I found the Barts to be fuller and deeper, yet with plenty of high end grit when needed. I find I hear myself a little better in the mix, and the modern tone has proven to be a bit more versatile for my needs than the vintage J thing.
I also dig the "form factor" of the Barts. It seems a minor point, but since my fingers are just about always touching one of the pickups, the friendly rubbery casing of the barts is a comfy feature.

Question... Let's say I was getting a new M5V, and was choosing between an Ash/Maple and an Alder/Maple. Which one will have more mid clarity?
I used to have an Ash/Maple M5V, and I liked the tone, but always wished it didn't sound quite as scooped. It was very warm, but it left me wanting a little more growl in the mids. Would the Alder/Maple give a little more focus in the center of the notes?

IMO, I think you're past experience is spot on. The ash will be scooped and the maple will give you brightness. I'd think either alder/maple or ash/rosewood would work.

The PJ5 from Kai Ski is now hanging out in the Holdsg stash, and its making itself right at home. Really comfy neck, the best 5-er neck in the business, IMHO.
