Hello all,

I do not post here much, but I really wanted to share this! Shout out to George at Bass San Diego for helping me put together a dream bass! It's a dark cherry burst UP4 with a jazz neck and matching headstock!

Vic - Just for fun, before I headed out to my gig last night I took the 2 batteries out of my Lull and plugged it into the amp and pulled out the volume knob into the Passive mode and I could hear the tone. Not trying to split hairs but I was led to believe that the preamp still needed some battery power to produce the signal to the amp but I could hear the notes loud and clear.
I like having a bass that if something goes screwy with the active preamp, I can still use the bass in passive mode. In my current band, we play a lot of outdoor festivals and I always bring a backup bass, but still fear issues with the wiring. I always liked that about my Carvin basses and to this day am surprised more luthiers do not do that. Any thoughts?

Nah, you just don't yet understand how it works. Let me put it this way... maybe this will help...

In passive mode, your signal path bypasses the preamp, so you're not using it and don't need it at all.

HOWEVER...

If you have a battery in the bass, power still flows to the preamp with the cord plugged in, even though you're not using the preamp because you're bypassing it.

So in short, yeah, you're completely bypassing it, but power still flows to it if power is present. It will use less power than if it were being used, but it still uses some power.
