Man. Just got this from Paul. This is the body for my fretless. It will have an unlined ebony board, Fralin single coil pups with a Bart pre. I am just blown away at the quality of work that Mike and company do.

So, I'm officially back in as of yesterday! Here's my 2nd Lull V4. A slightly deeper bluisher version of surf green, quartersawn neck and tort guard. I love this thing!

Here's a no flash photo... This color is so hard to photograph, the true color falls in between flash and non flash versions.

PS, don't hesitate to buy a Lull from Greg at Rocketmusic. An absolute pleasure to deal with throughout the process. Wait time on this one pretty short only two and a half months from order date to delivery.

Hello club members! Hope it's OK to post a question or two here.

I have a lovely Mike Lull M4V with an OBP-3 preamp. The control plate setup is (1) master vol (2) pickup blend (3) low mid - high mid push and pull and (4) a stacked knob pole with bass on the bottom and treble on top.

I'm looking to replace the "Fender-ish" black plastic knobs with something a little nicer, like the Sadowsky barrel type. Anyone know where I could get a set similar to that, that fits an M4V, and where it incorporates that stacked knob bass-treble pole?

Eventually I'll get around to posting a pic so I can join this club...

Hi Lull Mafia.

I´ve been scrolling the forum, but i decided to take to the keyboard
Imputs are very welcome!

-I´m ordering two more Lull basses soon, thought i´d get some imput from you guys.

One M5V with 34" scale and PJ PU configuration.
For this one I want to stick somewhat to the M4V that I have, that´s:
Ash/Maple, flame maple top, Bart JJ pups and Bart 3-band eq w/active/passive switch.

A little diversity would´nt hurt though.
Should I use Duncan PUs? What preamps do you use in your Ash/maple Lulls?
I tried the new Aguilar ToneHammer outboard preamp, i realy liked the punch. Does it come as an inboard as well?

I´m intrigued to take the M5V too far from the specs on my M4V.
The candy orange PJ M5V (sorry, don´t remember the owner´s name) -But I would like some more specs on that bass, it sounds great!

Also ordering a P4 bass, think it´s just straight Fralins on Alder/Rose for this one.

Anyway! Like I said, imputs are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I ordered my new lull PJ24V with Nordstrand 2band and Nordstrand PJ set but had it routed and ordered an extra J neck pickup and pickguard. I have just had good luck with the Nordstrand pre and pickups, although the bart setup in pauliebass' demo of his PJ24V sounds killer!

I´m a big Bart fan, but in the current setup I favour the bridge pickup for a little nasal sound á la "Jacotown".
It lacks a little bass when I do so, I think PJ is a better combo for versatility, since i tend to like the P mids better when blended, than JJ blend.
I play 90% of the time with the neck PU backed off around 10%. And I love the sound the M4V makes in this setting.

I want it to sound a bit more modern than vintage, and I have zero experience with Nordstrand yet, allthough rumors say they are great. Do you have any soundclips Saluki?
But, preamps aside, should the pickups be Duncan? Are they hotter than Barts?

Not sure if they're hotter, but the sound is everything I would ever want out of this configuration. Mike has Duncan make these pups to his specs. He tries to get close to a late pre cbs p pup, and makes sure the j is strong enough to keep up. To me, these make the best blended sound for a pj... which can be slightly problematic.

So I had a fun weekend! My band The Electric Woodshed got together to play out for the first time in 8-9 months, and we had a ball. I used my Lull M5V all night long, and I was loving every minute of it.

Here's a recording of the last tune of the night, complete with a hack bass solo. The bass was recorded direct through a REDDI tube DI, and that tone is all (or mostly) neck pickup.

Now that my M4V is almost paid for it's time to get serious about what I want my next Lull to be. I know it will be a passive P4 or P5(if I get brave and dive into the 5'r world again).
Always been partial to maple boards on my P's and love the maple/black/tort look. But lately I'm pulled toward the pastel/metallic colors w/roseboards. Started with my Sherwood/rose/tort M4V. So a Burgundy mist/rose or maple/white guard is on the list. I'll figure which at some point but my question to the flock is body woods. I've never thought much about it with basses. You paint Alder w/ solid colors and you let Ash's grain show and shine. I knew there was some tonal differences but not enough to worry about. A passive P is a passive P right? I like a vintage sounding P w/ the "brightness" a maple board gives up.
So tell me guys/gals, what would an Ash body add/subtract tonewise to a maple board and roseboard? If I go with a rose board will an Ash body bring back a little snappy brightness? I know I can and will talk w/ Mike or Paul but you folks have some practical opinions that I value. Thanks in advance.
