The P5 pickup Lull uses doesn't have this problem. If you look at a Fender P5, you'll notice the two pickup halves are different lengths. The pickup Lull uses is equal length on both halves, which eliminates any 60 cycle hum issues.

Yeah, I read through those threads with a great big "hmmmm…
". Doing the tricks I do with installing strings, I've not had a case of a bad B string. This is with Fender Jazz and Precision basses as well as Stingray SR5 (SR5 B can be bodacious, too!). But to me, of course, the Mike Lulls do everything better…..
I think this uneven-coil issue is overstated. Yes, the two coils in Fender-style P5s are uneven, but so are many hum-cancelling J-style and soap bar split-coil 5-string pickups. And I understand this makes them susceptible to noise. But I have not experienced hum with any uneven split-coil 5s I have owned — not Fender P5, Bartolini soap bar or Delano J-style. YMMV.
I definitely agree with you, but I'm the type who will obsess over a 1% difference. Sometimes that works in my favor, and other times it's a character flaw.
I've had my new P4 for about a week and a half now and have put many hours on it, including some full band settings. I can attest that the legacy of Mike Lull basses is currently as strong as it's ever been. This is the 9th Mike Lull bass I've owned, and it's without a doubt the best one yet. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say this one in particular is the best bass guitar I've ever played, period.
I placed a custom order yesterday for a new M5V… Alder/rosewood, charcoal frost finish with tortoise pickguard, 34" scale, B-style bridge, Bart NTBT pre. That'll compliment my new P4 nicely. Now I just have to mitigate my excitement and anticipation for the next 6-8 months.

Go ahead and pull the OEM pickguard and get the stock number from the back of the pickguard. Chandler will make the P5 pickguard from that pattern. I wanna say it was #951, but it was back in the summer and I can't swear that its correct.
(I ordered a replacement P5 pickguard when I, like a big dummy, broke the corner of mine while removing it to....er...well, let's just say I needed a new one....
)
I got mine direct from Lull, but the prices might be a bit cheaper at Pickguard Planet.
Greetings, Lullers. I'm here again after posting a NBD here just a few weeks ago, having visited the shop while staying in Seattle for the holidays. It didn't take me long to get my 2nd Lull, this one a very different beast from the first. Whereas the first one was a short scale with T-Bird pickups, this is a more traditional P5. One thing it has in common with the other bass, though, is a matching headstock, which I always love. It just arrived yesterday from a fellow TB-er... here she is:
Now, my enthusiasm was a bit tempered when it arrived because the knobs were a bit loose, and the set-up was not at all to my liking. I have tightened the knobs, and they are better, but they still drift a bit when they reach their endpoint. I'll need to further tighten them, I think. The larger project was the set-up, which was Jamerson-high all over the place upon arrival. I changed the strings to my beloved low tension TI flats, gave the truss rod a healthy twist (lowering the relief to nearly flat), and cranked the saddles down. I'm happy to report that, no doubt due to the PLEK job on this 2020 instrument, it's now taking silly-low action with no buzzing, just the way I like it for my lighter-touch playing style. It goes without saying that it sounds amazing, and I have really fallen in love with the color - it's gorgeous in person with the rosewood (?) neck.
BTW, it's funny that, as I'm posting this, the discussion is about P5 pickguard replacements - while this thing was in the mail I was certain that I'd be switching to tort. Therefore, the link above to Lull's PG source was much appreciated by me. However, I'm liking the classy look of the parchment that's on the bass now, and may just stick with it. Hooray!

Maybe check the pots under the knobs, sometimes the nut holding the pot in place can become loose.
