Greetings, Lull fans. I have just joined your number. I created a thread a few weeks back after I flew out to Seattle for the holidays (from Connecticut) and visited some bass shops out there, including Mike Lull Custom Guitars. The
"dramatic conclusion" of my thread was when I revealed which bass out of all the ones I tried at four different stores was the one I had sent home to me. It was this PT4-30 short-scale custom!

I have always been intrigued by short scale basses, as I have pretty small hands, so I find that I can cover more ground on them without awkward finger-stretching. However, after trying a Warmoth, a Gibson SG, a JMJ Mustang, and even a Birdsong Hy5 over the years, I never kept any of them because I didn't love the tone. Each one seemed to have its own thing going on in terms of its sound, and you couldn't get much of a range to fit different styles of music. On my trip last month, I was blown away by the range of this little green bass. The neck pickup is super thumpy, while the bridge pickup is barky and cutting without being too nasal. Run together, it's pure heaven (to my ears.) Now that I've gotten to spend some time with it at home I'm even more impressed - it's a truly great bass. I'm very happy to be part of the Lull crowd now, as well as the short-scale fraternity.
A couple of other notes: Spencer (who was a wonderful host in the showroom) warned me that the bass would be shipped in a full-scale gigbag because his bag manufacturer had discontinued its short-scale bags. He did so. When I got the bass, I measured it carefully and researched the Interwebz (including TB) for a solution, and I found one:
this case from Rondo Music. I texted Spencer, because the case (which arrived yesterday) is an absolutely perfect fit for these basses. He said immediately bought a bunch of them!
So, if anyone wants a brand-new Lull-branded Protec gig bag (the one the bass came to me in,) hit me up... I'll be throwing it up in the classifieds soon.
