Haha. It's been with me for a decade. It might be one of those basses that's hard to part with. But I hope you're right!

Wow. Just wow. This is as close to an ideal P5 as it gets. I've played a few nice ones, but the Lull has it all. It's the classic P tone, and the B string is balanced really nicely with the rest of the bass. I mean, REALLY nicely. It's not just a 4 string P Bass with an added B. The fundamental tone is there up and down the neck, and across all strings. It is set up with lower action that I normally use, but it still sounds focused and massive at the same time. I may keep it like this. It's just an effortlessly playing bass with a great tone.
The 35" scale isn't too much of an adjustment, but I will have to get used to it. The string spacing is right on. It's maybe 1/2 lb heavier than my EBMM SR5, but still under 9 lbs.

In my travels last month, I was in the Land of Lull (i.e., Seattle). I loved the city; what a great town. I didn't have a lot of time to spend there, unfortunately. My plans were to visit the shop, meet Spencer and possibly order a new j-bass. I never got to the shop (I know, hard to believe). I just ran out of time. But I did manage to get to The Bass Shop Seattle (thanks, Jim, for the recommendation). I met Chad and played a few of the Lulls he had on consignment as well as a tricked-out Will Lee Sadowsky. Long story short, I fell in love with and bought a beautiful, basically brand new V4. Actually, I didn't buy it. My wife bought it for me as a gift.
The Sadowsky was very nice, but it just wasn't me. It had every bell and whistle you can imagine. I just prefer the simplicity, feel and tone of the V4. Light weight and perfectly balanced. I love the neck and it's so easy to dial in. Plus, the amberish color and pearl blocks look cool.
I brought the bass to rehearsal last night and everyone loved it. The lead guitar player kept commenting on the tone and how lovely it sat in the mix.
There is a little serendipity in this purchase. I bought my first Lull from @bdgotoh about four years ago – a lovely P4, which I still have and love. It turned out, Brad owned this bass as well and put it on consignment at the Bass Shop. I think it's pretty cool both basses came from Brad - small world.
I feel quite lucky to be able to play such fine instruments. I really have no interest in other basses, these are so good.
And a big shout out to The Bass Shop Seattle. What a fantastic shop and a friendly, easy-going owner in Chad. If you're looking for a Lull, it would be the first place I'd consider (after Brad, of course!)

So first off - 4 years!! Wow, doesn't seem like it's been that long, but the dates match.
I'm so glad you got that bass Gary, that was my favorite V4 with Jazz pickups ever. Perfect tone and feel, it was the last one I sold. I've switched over to Big Singles on my V4s, that's the only reason I let that bass go.

Speaking of Big Singles, I picked this up Monday. These Lull short scale basses are so wonderful!
I second how wonderful the Lull short-scales are!!! I have a J430, the "traditional" jazz bass design but scaled to 30". Being an Olde Farte now the lesser string tension and left arm extension have kept me playing, otherwise i likely would have given up from physical discomfort(s). Lots of short-scales on the market but Lull quality makes it really special. And Gary so glad you enjoyed your Seattle visit in all ways possible

Yup. Four years. Amazing how time flies, isn't it? And all that time I've loved and played the heck out of that P4. It's always my first choice, though the V4 may give it some competition. It really does have great tone and good looks. Was that a special color? I don't remember seeing it in their standard finishes.
Don't start tempting me with big singles!

Yes, that was a one-off color when it was made in April 2021. They ended up bringing it back for one of the IMA4 runs, but it's a really rare color.
After a month of playing the Lull as my main bass, I am able to say that it will be taking over for the Stingray. It's just such a joy to play.

I have owned a J430 for about 6 months. I've also played and compared with the P430. I won't bother to comment on the Lull quality and playability, you are already very aware of that!
Both had the slimmer "jazz" width necks and both had Lull in-house pickups. Both solid bodies, I think alder but I'm not positive about that, and both right around 8lbs. The J sounded like a J and the P like a P (both passive), again I imagine you know what I mean - they sounded great. My J is wired vol-blend-tone and the Lull J pickups have a fuller meatier sound than the typical jazz single-coils, but still definitely that great growly single-coil jazz sound. I tend to keep the blend centered so no single-coil hum but if I roll blend either way off center there is [expected] hum. Both have the Hipshot B bridge and neither has thru-body stringing.
Spencer has been working on finding quality gig bag and hsc that fit either the J or P body but as far as I know doesn't have anything available yet. I found a decent (barely) Fender short-scale bass gig bag that fits my J430 but for gentle handling only. I'm not gigging these days so just use it around the house when my grandkids visit so I have a cover for it when I hide it away from them
I was very fortunate to be able to choose either the J or P, chose the J430 for two reasons: the J body is noticeably larger than the P body and as I play sitting down, the J just felt more comfy in my lap, a better "ergonomic" fit for my bod. Second reason is I just love that growly jazz sound though truly I would love to own both J and P.
I would also add that the short-scale bass, regardless of maker, has kept me playing. I have some physical limitations that made typical 34" no longer do-able and was pretty much ready to give up playing when a very good friend suggested I try short-scale - and that made all the difference for me. Lesser overall string tension easier for both hands, and lesser extension for left shoulder/arm/hand. I tried a few other brands with 28" scale and the frets were a bit too close together for comfort especially higher up on the neck. The 30" that the Lull shop chose is perfect (for me).
Apology if I have flapped my gums too much but I wanted to let you know how great the Lull short-scales are, and not just because they are stellar instruments, all things considered.

Hey all, been playing my TC5 recently and loving it but I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my bass.
When I have the Nordy pickups in active full humbucker mode (i.e. not coil split) they sound a bit lower than I'd expect them to, and when I coil split them there's a noticeable increase in output. I find there isn't much of a difference in sound between the active and passive settings either, but the mid boost and high + low knobs both work well so I know the active electronics are working somewhat.
I checked both 9V batteries and they're okay, so what's the deal?
