The Mike Lull Club Part 4

My Lulls are amazing... Love these basses and they capture the sound as they are meant to be...

What sounded better on the TC4 rounds or flats?

I am selling my PJ....I just dont like PJs its a P but its a J its a J but its a P....kinda too weird for me! I am a SVT using P with flats jazz with stainless kinda guy!

I prefer flats on almost anything, so thats what I had on it all the time I had it. So I can't comment on rounds, sorry.

My band has a showcase for Sony Records in Nashville Tuesday night. We're heading up there tomorrow to rehearse for a few days before the show. I'm planning on taking both my Lull V4 and Lakland 55-14 with me, and I'll decide in the rehearsals which one I'm going to use for the showcase. We're only playing 6 of our songs for them, so I'm just going to use one bass for the whole set.

Good luck! Can't lose with either but if decision is between a 4 string vs 5 seems the songs would determine that, for me.

I am kinda sad today! I picked up my ole faithful standard jazz today that gets super low action and plays great...and realized it can not compete with my lull jazz at all! neither can any of the 50 or so basses I have played in the last couple years....I am done with my search.....there is no more GAS! I have a lull jazz a lull PJ and lull TC4 now....I dont need anything else!
When I look in the classifieds if it dont say lull in the title I am not interested! I miss GAS!
I do want to get a lull P....probably with a P neck just to change it up a little! guess I have something to GAS for!

I decided last minute to bring my Lull P4 instead of my V4 for my band's Sony Music Nashville showcase on Tuesday. I brought my Lakland 55-14 along as well, but decided I'm going to use the P4 in the showcase. I'm just a sucker for that P bass sound, especially with the Sadowsky flatwounds I have on it. With that bass going into my REDDI, I'm confident that my bass tone will be on point.

LMy MV5 has always had Nickel D'Addarios and I tried Pro Steels tonight. I could use something brighter but until I get a chance to play a rehearsal they will stay. Problem is the set I got is 5 string but not with an extra long scale B string so I did not run it through the body. Taper was within).

Not thru the body, it just doesn't seem right even though I think it sounds OK at low solo practice volume and also with headphones. It is as usual a bit stronger and fuller sounding than the E string. I should probably investigate that further.

(Note when not through body watch the little bushing/retainer will fall out of the body).

Also I want to go back to the lighter gauge than GC carried today, which was 45, 65, etc.

Question:

Will this set B string fit through the body?

D'Addarios EPS220-5 - Long Scale 40-125: .040 .060 .075 .095 .125

Thinking of trying these, too, for similar sound. Any knowledge on long enough b string without taper?

Ken Smith ROCK MASTERS - 5 String Set Light: .040 .060 .080 .100 .120

La Bella Stainless Steel Round Wound Series - 5 String Set Custom Light: .040 .060 .080 .100 .128T

DR High Beams: Lite 120: .040 .060 .080 .100 .120

Best other strings I liked recently were La bella Rocking Steels for my P Bass, to give you an idea of the sound I am going for.

Note: all sets listed were found by filtering for Extra Long Scale on bassstringsonline.com but I think the filter breaks when you select a brand/string type.

Thanks for suggestions.

Edit: bassstringsonline replied to my query: b string needs to be 38", ball to taper, for MV5 Just need to make sure B string is that long

I really like Fodera stainless 5 string set. They are really warm for stainless and bright and articulate!!
They sound fantastic on my jaZz lull!!!

I can't wait to get Gary's TC4 tomorrow!!! I was drooling over that when he got it now it's mine!!!!

I hope the strong retainers don't fall out of that bass! I plan on not stringing through. Why put a hipshot A bridge and string through??
