The Mike Lull Club Part 4

I might be in the minority, but I did not like the Fralins in my passive Lull PJ at all. It sounded weak and thin, no balls. The bass sat in the case while I went on a G&L excursion with a LB 100 and SB2. G&L can't make a light bass to save their life. I finally started experimenting with pickups in the Lull and bam! DiMarzio Model P and J brought the bass to life for me. It went from zero to hero! I use Circle K, now Kalium strings.

Can you recommend one in particular? After a few adjustments over the last several months, I looked at the truss rod end and they're getting chewed up already!

Maybe something like this: Invalid Link Removed

The Stew Mac one that Freddels shows is exactly what I'd recommend.

Another choice is:

I have both and I prefer the Stew Mac version. The bit fits into the truss rod nut a little tighter.

I had a Lull PJ I traded....it had nordys in it and was also like weak in the middle then over the top kinda when you went from the middle to either side a bit......I guess you can EQ all that out but it was just too weird for me....I guess I am just a P or a J kinda guy....or a fat stacks! The Fat stacks are what I wanted my PJ to sound like!
Greg from Rocket told me that Mike's favorite PJ is the P with a big single in the J.....I think I am going to try that next!

oops I forgot to insert the quote about the fralins.

there we go.....

and the only way with regular fender style pickups to get rid of those volume drops in passive PJs is with one of those switches where you can put all the power on the P.....the J pup really takes something away from it!

Martin Landau?
