The Mike Lull Club Part 4

And..... A bass that is basically a Fender type P or J is not about beautifully exotic woods, the exotic wood tones and combinations there of. The idea behind Lull, Sadowsky ect is building a better mousetrap..... Or a booteek mousetrap if you will. So the hand crafted aspect of the bodies and necks is not the focal point of these basses. It is using quality parts, great combinations of electronics and superior setups and playability.

Let me add to this, if I may...Mike does take it one step further as well.
He is one of the few that offers to do those mousetraps with modern 35" scales and HE has worked with the exotic woods as well (you just have to talk to them about it) although its not the norm.

These tools help me with my Job more then anything else..Thats how I look at them.

Lull basses are obviously more money than Fender, etc...so getting top notch playability, tone, bass weight, and quality control are key.

My recent M5 fretless is a classic example... Paul received two prior Spalted Maple bodies that were milled incorrectly. The first one was a perfect 35" body, instead of the ordered 34"...but the other, was simply not made to Mike's quality standard. Obviously, this was not very "fun" for me, as it made for additional delays. That said, I was glad they weren't trying to pass off a sub-standard body on me! My M5 (and M5V) arrived flawless, and (fwiw) both necks feel the same. (Although, the recent discussion of neck shape variances does concern me, as Lull necks have been a huge selling feature that you could always count on...)

Last year, I had an opportunity to visit a retail music store with about every bass brand in stock. I remember having a Fender Deluxe in one hand, and a Lull M5V in the other... Wow, I had a definite preference in weight/neck feel even before I sat down to play them!!! :)

Congrats on the endorcement and NAMM demoage.
I hope to get there again this year, but I lost my "connection". We'll see if I can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Of course I could be convinced to be a booth babe, wouldn't have to twist my arm much.

Dearest Ron Plicta,
I apologize for the monkey wrench but alas I am both 133 & 138
Tis true that my U name changed...Please inform the powers to be.

Sincerely Yours
TonyP-

Be sure to post some photo's from the booth/performances. I'm hoping to see some special stuff for NAMM - maybe even a cool T5, as I want another one.
Nice! I'm a T5 and NRT5 guy myself- mike just built a t4 in satin white with un-painted neck that looks sick-it's for the imagine dragons bassist
