I'm in, here's two pics of my two Lull basses.

The four string has a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and is passive with DiMarzio Ultra J pickups. Serial 680.

The five string has an unlined ebony fretless fingerboard, Duncan Basslines pickups and a Bartolini preamp. Neck is serial 354, body is 234.

The eq covers a lot of ground; you can get bright tones but you can just as easily get dark tones too, it's a pretty powerful setup compared to the passive guitars & basses I'm used to playing.

I've played that purple fretless back when it was a fretted with maple board. A local guy was selling it on eBay and brought it over my place for me to try... I remember reading the next listing when it became a fretless, the guy said the original neck broke at Mike's shop and Mike had this fretless neck around... It was a cool bass, I still want one of those older M5's!

I have a question for any Lull 5-string owners:

Do any of you have a recent Mike Lull 5-string that has 19mm (3/4") string spacing at the bridge?

According to an email I received from someone at Lull Guitars, all the 5-string basses have 18mm spacing.

One of the managers at Bass Central said he measured one of their Lull 5-strings, and insists it has 19mm string spacing.

I'm interested in the bass, but sceptical about the string spacing.

Any info would be appreciated.

Mine is 19mm as measured with my super accurate, Starrett metric dial calipers :smug:

Mine is the 18mm spacing, as well as the one I played this weekend. :)

+1, I love Sadowsky's but that 19mm spacing takes some getting used to.

Hi, I just recently bought a used Mike Lull MJ5 (#602), with passive Seymour Duncan pickups, and it just sounds great, both recorded and live. I'm hoping to join this thread as a member, not quite sure how to do that.

I got this bass on Craigslist at a great price, and found out a little history from the Lull shop. It was built for Nashville bassist Michael Rhodes, then ended up with Schroeder, of Schroeder Bass cabinet fame, before I finally got my hands on it. It needed a set-up, and even after my amateur job, it plays great, love it. Mike says it was candy apple red although it has more of copper tint now. I appears to have very little wear.

Hi, I tried to post last night but didn't see it show up, so maybe as a new guy, I'm doing something wrong.

I just found a great deal on a used Candy apple red (#602) Lull PJ/5 on Craigslist here in L.A. I emailed the Lull shop to find out a little of the history. It was made for Nashville session bassist Michael Rhodes and ended up with Shroeder of Shroeder bass cabinet fame, before finding its way to the dealer who gave me a great deal. It had very little wear, but really needed a set-up and even after my amateur job, it's playing and sounding great. It's got the passive Duncans.

That's a great snag if it was once Michael Rhodes. That means extra Lull fairy dust was springled on it!:D

It also helps if you got it for a great price. I wouldn't mind a Lull for a great price!;)
