The New Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V

i agree in fact on the two models i picked up (both 4 and 5 strings models) you could actually see the glue holding the wings on to the neck through stringers seemed really rough and unfinished.

of the three i like the trans black finish

but seeing the way the natural version was put together makes me wonder about the construction of them all

I purchased the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro 5 String Natural Oil finish and was very impressed with the quality of the instrument for the price, it seems to be a very solid Bass and sounds great! When it arrived I had to set it up to my own specs which was no big deal, The only thing I am not all that impressed about is the Pickups for some reason they barely pickup on the low B string, you can tell right away when you play it. It's not a major problem for me because I will most likely replace them but to most people purchasing this Bass they will expect to have all cylinders firing and I'm afraid they will be disapointed. Overall I think IMO it is a great smooth Playing Bass.

Could it be the strings or the amp that affected the B? I'm very disappointed to hear. The idea of an active 5 string Tbird is awesome....I'd love to try one out.

When I recieved the bass I installed New Rotosound strings so I don't think it would be the strings, my guess would most likely be the pickup width although I have a Gibson Studio 5 with about the same width and no problems with it. as for amp. I use a carvin bx500 and redline 1000 so I do not think it would be the amps. most likely it is just cheap pickups since I have tried everything else, even adjusted the pickups next to the strings. The G string has no problem it is just as loud as the EAD it's just the B string.

Is the neck on the pro 5 the same width as the studio bass? The pro 5 I saw looks EXTREMELY wide.

I have a studio 5 as well. How would you compare it with the pro in terms of neck feel and tone?

The neck is a bit wide but I think it is thinner, after I played around on it a bit it seem to feel good playing on it. At first when I saw it I was a little worried since the nut is wider than the Studio 5. also the bridge on the bass is differant from the pictures epiphone has it seem alot nicer IMO and more adjustable. As for the neck it really does not bother me. I just wanted another 5 string thunderbird to change back in forth on. You just have to try one and see what you think.

I do not have a store around here carrying any of these basses, I purchased my Epiphone thunderbird pro V from Musicians Friend and the nice thing about that is your have a window of 45 days to try it out. if you do not like it you call them and they will have UPS pick it up from you. I have done this before with them. also as for the sound compared to the Studio 5 I think it has more range from low to high with the active pickups, although as for the low B it is to soft to tell.

I just got my epiphone tbird pro v this month and the low B string sounded horrible. I tried to replace the strings with ghr bass boomers and the 130 size B string wouldn't fit in the bridge. So i tried the 125 size on DR sunbeams, and still wouldn't fit. So i replace the bridge with a hipshot 5 string. Now the low B and high G dont get picked up by the pickups. I'm thinking about upgrading the pickups. Ugh!
