I pre-ordered an Thunderbird Pro IV in January. GAK told me I'd have it my May. After a few delays and lots of poor comms from GAK, I've lost heart and given up. They even tried to get away with seeing if I wouldn't notice that they hadn't refunded my deposit. It's definately put me off GAK. I figured that a T-Bird Pro is £350, and a 2nd hand Gibson T-Bird is only a little over twice the price, so why not just search for one of those? Then I found a 1984 custom Gibson Explorer bass, and bought that instead. I'm still on the look out for a T-Bird, but after all of the faff and unanswered emails from Epiphone about the delays, I'll just hold out for a used Gibson. I mean, it seems that the active pick ups is the only thing the Pro has that the Gibson doesn't, and from what I've read, isn't the signal from the Gibson pups so strong that it doesn't need the eq anyway? Sure, it won't be as versatile, but does anybody think the T-Bird pro would put up a fight against the Gibson?
