Adrian,
Your knowledge on the bass side of life is impeccable, but you have demonstrated through our conversations, and correspondence, that you are a man of integrity. I would follow you to the edge and beyond.

A big +1 to that. :)

Thanks for inspiration that caused me to get an F Bass, and a Skjold, now a Nordstrand
Three instruments, and three gentlemen, that are truly wonderful, and top of the heap (with a select few others) in my book.

Tom.

Tom
Man that is a beauty. Congrats dude.
Have you played the Big Singles?
I can't make up my mind on pups.

Thanks! I feel very fortunate to have 'found' this instrument.

I played several Nordy's at NAMM, and I don't recall all the details, but I do recall from talking to Carey that the Big Singles seemed like the ticket for my preferences. But then I get this vJ5 with the Fat Stacks, and I am in love!

Still, I think I may have Nino build me something involving at least one Big Single. :ninja:

Okay, guys, I talked with Carey yesterday, and here is the scoop. That preamp was made for him by Homebrew Electronics, and it was a one-off. Turns out Carey loved it, and asked them to make more, but they basically forgot exactly what 'magic' went into that one. So, I sent the bass to Carey, and they are going to 'reverse engineer' their own preamp to make more. :D

Interesting......
So, what's in it for me;)
I just order mine with the Audere, how would the custom compare? Can you give a comparison to like the bart, aggie OBP-3, sadowsky, or even the East/Skjold pre?

I keep looking at this one

Not really. I didn't spend enough time tweaking knobs on the other Nordy's to get a feel for their preamps, and I really don't have an identically spec'd bass with a different preamp in it, so it is very hard to tell. Sorry. :( I am sure that the Audere works great with the Nordy, too, though.

Okay, I want in!
Top of the month I order an Olympic White, Ash, Rosewood/Brazilian Rosewood JJ/PJ.
It will have pearl blocks and bindings and a matching headstock, with NJ5’s and a NP5 reversed, it will have a white pearl pickguard for the JJ setup and a tort pickguard for the PJ, for the electronics it will have Audere Pre with Master Tone Control.
I knew a PJ was possible, but I wanted the best of both worlds, so I talked with Carey about the possibility of routing the bass for the jazz and a reverse P pickup configuration, and a quick connect when I wanted to change the pickups, I was thrilled when Carey said he could do it, and it's only a slight up charge, plus mine will be the first Nordstrand with this configuration. I am anxious to seeing which pickup combo I will favor. I had a Valenti with the Nordy Dual Coil pickups they were awesome, I hope the NJ/NP will be as hot as the DC's.

I'mn curious why you chose Ash with Braz Rosewood instead of the more tradition Alder?

The stock bridge isn't bad, just what you said: Carey wouldn't use it if it weren't good stuff, and Carey is very careful and methodical when picking out materials. He is a pro at what he does.

For me, after playing the bass for 3 months with the stock bridge, I felt that I needed more mass. So I decided to have this one installed:

sorry the crappy pic, I was in a hurry this morning.

Now that you've had the Hipshot B style Bridge on your Nordy for a while, how would you describe the sonic differences? More growl? Punchier? B string? Anyhing else?
Gary
