What you had was two teams, who play good fundamental defense, clutch and grab a lot and don't posses any real offensive playmakers. While both teams have guys who are snipers, neither team has the kind of playmaker who can generate easy chances for the rest of his teammates. So most of the scoring comes on mistakes. I thought it was pathetically boring hockey, this is what you get with parity and the sixth and eighth seeds playing for the cup. :rollno:

Well, the Kings are up 2 games to none. Both won in OT. Jeff Carter was the hero tonight. The Devils are playing hard, but just don't look like the same team that eliminated the Flyers and Rangers. Kovalchuk, Parise, and Elias have been very quiet. Elias had a goal in Game 1, but if I recall, even that one went in off a King.

Looks like Richards and Carter will get the last laugh on the Flyers after all. I always liked them as Flyers, and never knew about the reported "locker room problems". The series isn't over yet, but it's getting close. When one team needs two games out of five, and the other needs four out of five, we all know where the odds lie. Regardless, I hate to see the hockey season coming to an end... :crying:

Broons went down 0-2 last year in the finals. They also went down 0-2 at home in the first round vs the Habs.

All is not lost for NJ; these are very even games. That said, getting a puck past Jonathan Quick takes a complex series of events.

Quick and the Kings defense are surely on fire. I don't believe the Devils have had a non fluke goal in the series. I know you need some grit goals to win the Cup. but for all intents and purposes the Kings are pitching a shutout so far. I don't know if its the Kings great D or the Devils mediocre offense. I will say this much the Devils D does not move the puck out of the zone that effectively. Having said that, the Kings are so methodical at defensive puck movement they've almost gotten in trouble a couple of times.

I'd agree in half a heartbeat that Datsyuk is the best player on the Wings now, but do you think he has the locker room presence to lead? In the few interviews I've seen him do, he seems like a very quiet, unassuming guy (which I like, but don't necessarily believe translates into what a team needs in a captain). But you know the Wings team better than I do.

Well that is a perfect description of Lidstrum, and a description of Yzerman in his pre-captain days. The C with the Wings has been a quite guy who goes about his business without a lot of fan fare and leads by example for a while.

It is not fun watching the Kings make Brodeur look bad. I feel sorry for Marty.

Second, seeing those Farmer John billboards reminds me of summers at my grandma's in Ontario when she'd make us fried eggs and JD sausage for breakfast. I sure miss those yummy sausages.

I'll admit to having a soft spot for Marty, but Quick and LA deserve this one. Quick has played very well, but NJ refuses (or is unable) to put the shots on him that might actually beat him. So very good for Quick but not great - but certainly good enough. I think Quick played better in the previous rounds.

Also agreed that no NJ goal (and there have only been 2) has been a true skill play.

But big picture, the league seems to be moving toward this horrible seven men in front of the net strategy that makes scoring goals almost impossible from the point; almost impossible from an offensive zone set-up (unless on the PP). What's left is the occasional acceleration through center ice that doesn't end up in a ticky-tack battle and reverse dump-in back the other way.

It's not the Tampa Bay style altogether, but it's not great.
