The Official EBS Club

High all,

I need some insight from EBS experts so I figured this is the place to be. I recently picked up a used Reidmar 470 from GC and It's been quite an impressive little amp but I have some questions as the available info and literature on these leaves a little to be desired.

My first question is what is the actual output of this amp at 4 and 8 ohmsm I saw something that said 250w at 4 and 8 with a a dynamic output of 470w, what does that mean exactly?

I also noticed that the Reidmar 470 and Reidmar 250 use the same manual, does that mean they are the same head and it was renamed at some point? I also saw the Reidmar 500 is listed as having the same power rating. So are all the heads technically the same amp?

My last question is related to my current cab and which head would be best to pair with it. I have an older Bergantino HT210. It's an 8 ohm cab rated at 450w. The head I had been using with it is a shuttle 9.2 which puts out about 450 @ 8 ohms so it's well matched.

Now the Reidmar 470 seems to be way louder than my Shuttle, but with the wattage being so much lower, assuming 250 @ 8, how is this possible? Also, assuming it is putting out 250w would I be better suited with a Reidmar 750 or is the 470 okay to pair with the Berg.

Just looking for some clarification. The big thing is why with such low "listed" wattage these amps seem so powerful. Sorry for the long post, just a lot of questions with this amp being new to EBS.

Thanks

yeah, formally Reidmar and Reidmar 500 share the same specs: 125W RMS @8 ohms and 250W RMS@4. they're pretty loud for that rating, so no wonder that EBS markets them as a 500W amp.

think of 250/470/500/502 as a list of revisions for one amp, it's essentially the same, but there may be some evolving changes. the 502 surely got a new power amp, not sure if there were notable changes prior to that. anyway, be happy with what you got and don't overthink it.

a 752 will be louder (230W RMS vs 125W RMS in 8 ohms, twice for dynamic rating). a 750 will be even more louder, as it's rated 350W@8 (and again, twice for dynamic rating), but you need to be careful not to destroy your cab. do you really need more power, considering you already have volume increase? it's up to you, either one is good.

after all, if your cab is able to handle 450W mechanically, it doesn't neccesarily mean, it will sound good if you put 450W to it.

Thanks so much, that's a much clearer explanation than I've been able to find so far.

That said, could you explain exactly what's meant by dynamic rating? For example, the 752 being 230w @ 8, does that make it's dynamic rating 460w. I'm just struggling to understand what EBS means by Dynamic rating. Haven't seen that listed on other amps.

The main benefit I was considering with a 750 was the extra head room, but according to what you're saying, even though it's lower wattage than the 750, the 752 would still offer that. I get the 752 is able to function at two ohms, and that's where it puts out 750w, but I only have 8ohm cabs so that's why I was thinking about a 750. It's designed more to work with the cabs I already have. That said, very good point about the 750 and how it might bee too much going into my Berg, given how loud the Reidmar heads are in comparison to others. If I do upgrade, maybe I'll give more thought to 752, but I'm definitely happy with what I'm hearing from the 470.

it's continious vs dynamic/program rating. a 125W RMS rating means that the amp could output 125W for hours (CMIIW, not really sure if that's hours exactly). a 250W "program" rating means that amp is able to put out 250W at shorter periods. and it's perfectly okay for playing bass since you typically don't have your low E sounding non-stop without pause for minutes at full volume. a program rating is twice the continious rating.

there's also a 'peak' rating, which is even higher. google 'rms vs program vs peak' if you need more info.

Hey all. Is the only difference between the Reidmar 750 and 752 the new power module that can handle a 2 ohm load? I know the size and weight are slightly different but I'm only interested in the functionality as both amps are small and light anyway. But they didn't make any adjustments to the EQ points or anything did they?

Quick questions friends:
I’m about to acquire a Classic Line 212 from the classifieds. I know the specs are 4Ohms and 500 watts RMS. Is there Also a peak wattage rating on EBS cabs? Wondering if this cab can take any more power? Thanks

if it's rated 500W RMS, you'd better not feed more to it, as that's the mechanical limit.

peak rating is 2x the RMS rating

Hey everyone,
I have 2 questions, so bear with me.

1-I know there's someone who is the USA rep for EBS, and that they have an email....anyone have the hookup for that? Why is it so hard to FIND these beautiful things?!

2- I have a Reidmar 502 and CL112, is that too much amp for that cab?? I'm noticing some distortion with my Ibanez ANB205, but not other basses....its hard to describe, but I'll try if you need more info to answer me.

p.s. if that doesn't help, try a fresh battery in your bass.

in any case, very unlikely it's the cab, if your other basses are okay with the same volume.
I guess I hadnt ever thought of a preamp being the bit thats distorting.....I didnt know that was possible. Ive been turning the gain way down and the volume way down on the bass, but it will still distort sometimes.
Ill have to play around with the internal pots...see whats up.

Hi folks! One of these cabs popped up locally for dirt cheap. It says EVOLUTION PRO LINE 2000 and it appears to be a 110. Can anyone tell me something about these cabs ? Hard to find anything online :)

That *does* look more like "Neoline" than "Proline" (which tend to have some blue detail and a different grill). Apparently the reviews vary a bit by model - I've got a pair of 212s from the same Neo series that I consider to be just superb. That was indeed a boutique cabinet in its day, but it's only spec'ed to handle 250W, so I'd be really careful using contemporary hundreds-of-watts-in-a-matchbox amps with it. The catalog photo shows a handle being used to prop it up like an angled monitor, and maybe that's it's intended use - on-stage sound for a bassist that's mostly running through the PA. Should also be fine in a cafe/bar gig if the speaker's still OK.
