The Official EBS Club

Comparable in that they can be compared. The Fafner was their flagship high-end bass head, built in Sweden, with a hybrid tube/solid state pre-amp and a class AB power stage. Reidmar is a simpler, smaller, lighter, class D based amp built in China (not a bad thing in itself but it tells you something about how it was designed). The Fafner cost a lot more to build and a lot more to buy new. The Fafner can handle 2 Ohm speaker stacks, while the Reidmars (apart from the little 502) do not. I don’t need another bass amp, but if I stumbled across a Fafner at that sort if price I would be tempted.

With my venerable EBS 1V2 at last needing some factory service, I decided to get another EBS amp as a backup/alternative amp to my Markbass Ninja 1000.
So, today I bought a very lightly used EBS Reidmar 750, and I expect it will arrive here by the end of next week. Buying demo/second hand, my "made in China" concerns will feel less important to me, and my reservations about the EQ points will be less important with the specific cab/band/music/gig I plan to use it for. (Regular gig, playing old rock/pop with a large choir, moderate SPL in a big room, with a smaller cab.)

It will be VERY interesting to compare the sound and feel of the Reidmar 750 to my Markbass Ninja! With flat EQ and moderate MI shop SPL, they sound very similar... On stage, things might change!

So, first gig done with the 750. Not sure what to say...
It will at least be a good backup amp. It feels powerful and runs very cool. Fan is unnoticable on stage.

It is a regular gig, but I brought a different cab and bass, than I mostly bring there. With that disclaimer, my sound was generally not as good as usual. Less articulation, less punch in the lowest notes, higher noise floor, and high mids and treble not as clean as usual. Will need to use my regular bass and cab next time, but my experience says it is mainly the amp that causes the difference.

Even the drummer noticed and commented the slight lack of articulation and heft.

First EBS product. Microbass 3. Really liking it so far, it's seems pretty underrated.

Are you using that in front of an amp or IEM? I tried to use it in front of my EBS Redimar 750 and got major noise. The only reason I had it on the board was to use in either situation but apparently, since there is no bypass, it wasnt an easy swap. Literally have to unplug it from the chain. Thought that was weird.

As a practice tool. It is invaluable for me.

It's not an effect, it's a pre-amp, so "bypass" in the stomp-box sense of the term isn't going to be an option. If you're going to run the MB3 output into the input of a normal bass amp like the Reidmar 750, you'd want to roll input gain way down or the noise will get nasty and you may get un-musical overmodulation distortion on the input stage. If you patch it into the Reidmar's FX return instead of the input, you may get a better result.

I don't have an MB3, just the older MBII. It's main purpose in life is to be a pre-amp for my studio DAW and a backup to patch directly into PAs on gigs where I can't use a stage amp. But I *have* run its output into my EBS Drome combo input, experimentally, to see if it sounded better with my NS EUB piezo pickups, and while it was a pretty small improvement (I ultimately bought a Fishman for this), I didn't encounter any dramatic noise problems, even though I knew they'd be possible - but, again, I was rolling the input gain way down.

My DROME needs a doctor. I’m in Rhode Island, any suggestions? Amp powers up but no sound.
Not even on headphones? Have you tried cleaning all the switching jacks (headphones, FX return)? One quick test is to jumper FX out straight back to FX return. In the 15 years I.ve had my Drome, I’ve had to clean the FX loop twice. My process was to blast compressed air, then DeOxit, then insert/remove a clean plug a dozen times, then more compressed air.

I also did need to have mine repaired once, when it wouldn’t even power up, but my amp tech is in Campbell, California. He did tell me it was a well-designed amp fir troubleshooting, FWIW.

Thanks for the reply. Headphone out works ok. I cleaned all jacks a while back when I started having problems, I’ll try again.

Hope that helps, though if you already cleaned 'em once, I doubt that's the problem. What this tells us, though, is that the preamp section of the amp is working, which is actually the bit with the most parts and connections that can go wrong. Just having isolated it to the power amp should bring down the repair estimate when you find a tech.

Hey there folks! I own a couple of ebs products that I've enjoyed(dyanverb and unichorus). I recently purchased the microbass 3 from sweetwater. I loved the pedal except that the mute/tuner are not working. The people at sweetwater sent me another one. I got it home. Same issue.

So something is wrong or I'm missing something. For those that are thinking it's a power issue at my house, I've used many many many different pedals.
I have also brought the microbass 3 to multiple venues to play. A church, A hilton hotel, etc. The same issue occurred at all spots.

I have contacted EBS a week ago and have not heard back.

If anyone could offer input that would be great! Thank you for your time.

Have you tried messing with the stereo mode switch on the side? I know it sounds crazy, but from the schematic, it has an effect on the Mute function.

hey. I currently play a Reidmar with a Neoline 112. the 112 is nice: very clean and responsive; glassy, open and articulate highs and defined, but not boomy lows. but sometimes I feel it could have a bit more 'body' or 'fullness'.

what's my next move? the neo 212? or should I consider trying a classicline 112 as well?

I've watched some demos with a CL112 (unfortunately cannot try any EBS cabs in person) and got the impression:
1. it goes deeper than the neo 112
2. it sounds fuller in mids
3. it doesn't have that great high end as the neo does

is all that true? thanks
