The Official EBS Club

Sid The pop and crackle is constant when the amp is powered up. It doesn't change with different outlets, bass plugged in or not, or different IEC cables. I would guess that a resistor or capacitor failed. Riis says Alpha Music has a great amp tech so I will check that out.

The noise is constant.I have tried different IEC cables, different outlets, and whether a bass is plugged in or not the pop and crackle is there. I have taken good care of it and I don't mind putting money into it. I traded 2 Berg 12" cabs for it in 2008 and I've never looked back.

Yeah, Al T., it's time for a good tech. If it's going to be a drive, phone ahead to see if they're willing to work on it. Keith is a venerable wizard, but had only worked on one EBS before mine. He'd been happy with EBS support, and he was happy to take on my Drome, but there are techs that aren't comfortable with obscure out-of-production boutique amps they've never seen.

I'll definitely call and talk to the amp tech first. He comes highly recommend by a TB'er who does business at that shop. I have a Thunderchild / Acoustic Image rig in the living room to play through but I already miss the Drome.

Man I'd love to see EBS update their neo line and get a real US distributor! Unless we already have some and I'm unaware! Would love to find a neo 212 to match with my Reidmar 750, just can't justify their high priced cabs lol.
If I were to replace my EBS Neo212s in the US, I'd probably get Bergantinos, which are the closest I've found. But they still don't quite have the low-end presence of the physically larger EBS cabinets. The EBS Neo212s are 4 Ohm cabs, designed to be used with the older EBS Class A/B heads that are happy with 2 Ohm loads. I've got two of these cabs. I think they're amazing. But the main reason I haven't bought a Reidmar 750 is that it only goes down to 4 Ohms, and I couldn't use it with the full stack. And my old HD350 puts out a lot more power into 2 Ohms than the Reidmar 502. So my "class D EBS rig" remains my ancient EBS-1 Pre-amp with a 1500W Crown class D power amp.

And I'll be member number 2! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: ;)
I have the slightly unconventional rackmount preamp EBS 1v.2 and a Labgruppen PA power-amp. Both swedish (but that is NOT was the reason I bought them), both very well designed and built, both all solid state. :) No pics today...
I bought the EBS 1v.2 used in a music store 10 years ago, and it has served me perfectly ever since. Super low noise, nice compressor and cross over, lots of outputs for DI etc. The odd thing is the eq, which takes some time to get used to.
Replaced input jack a couple of years ago - but it turned out it was the Peavey "life time warranty" instrument cable that was shot.
Also have the EBS Octa Bass - brilliant thing! :D

Hello. i know this is an old post but i have the same preamp and its not getting a signal so i wondering if that jack was hard to replace. it looks different than the average switchcraft jack, thanks

Any further description you can provide on the Drome problem? Is the popping and crackling happening all the time, randomly, or when the amp is powering up, or under heavy load? My Drome failed a couple of years ago, but differently - it was a capacitor that had gone bad and shorted in the pre-amp power supply - and Keith Reinegger of the Amp Lab in Campbell, CA was able to troubleshoot and fix it for me. He commented that the EBS people had been very cool with giving him schematics, and found the design to be nicely set up for troubleshooting. He's the best tech I know in the SF Bay Area, but that's a long way from Richmond, VA. These are amazingly versatile little amps and worth spending a bit to keep running, IMHO.
Hi, i know this is an old thread but i have an EBS-1 Ver2 preamp id like to bring back to life and wondered if you had any suggestions in SoCal or should i contact Amp Lab and ship it, thanks

The music industry is so big in southern Cal that I have to believe there are at least a couple outstanding amp techs down there, but I don’t know any of them. You could do worse than to contact Keith at the Amp Lab and see if he’d be willing to take on your EBS pre. He sometimes gets really busy, and when he is he can be pretty slow to return calls.

Yes there has to be, i want to find the right person though, i'll check him out. I don't get a signal with the gain all the way up so could just be the jack, though its getting solid contact. Thanks for the speedy reply

Does anybody here with EBS cabs use different amps than EBS?
Specially, I’m wondering about Mesa Subway TT or WD-800’s.
I have played my vintage SVT head through my Neo 212s and it sounded awesome. I have also tried with a Mesa (forget which model) and had to EQ a little to keep it from being too bright. The EBS cabs go both way down and way up.
Are the Reidmar amps made in Sweden?
Nope.

Hi,
I do not remeber by heart. As I live in Sweden, I just ordered directly from EBS. They are helpful, nice and quick. Components in the 1V2 are very high quality and mostly standard. A shop working with studio gear (Presonus, DBX, Otari, Lexicon, rather than Peavey or Carvin) should have no problem fixing it.
Good luck!

In my experience my Reidmar 750 didn't match well with Berg HD or Ref cabs. I've never seen an EBS neo cab in the wild here in the southeast. EBS's neo speakers haven't been updated since 2006 from what I've gathered as well.....

Hey all! I am probably going to be letting my EBS Classicline 112 cabinet go. I wanted to let the resident EBS fans in the CONUS know in the event that anyone had some interest. My Neoline 112 gets much more love from me these days.

I'm probably going to list it in the classifieds and possibly Reverb in the next couple of days. Wanted to give you all a head start just in case. And I still have the original shipping box and materials, so it should get wherever it has to go safely.

I will let someone who actually owns one provide more definitive info, but by reputation, that generation of Fafner sounds fabulous but had a weak point in the design where the main power switches tended to need replacement. If it doesn't have a bad switch (or other issue) 400EUR would indeed be a good price.
