I just thought I would share this tip I just found out. (Maybe it's yesterdays news to you guys, dunno)

Anyway. I have an old Finnish (I believe) veneer bass from the 1950´s. It's not mine but I can use it now but that's not the point. I got a Fishman BP100 from the guy who owns the bass, got that for a gig. I plugged a normal instrument cable into the BP100 and then to the EBS Drome and all I heard was this nasty 80´s Eddie Gomez like sound with hard treble and well you know what I mean. I took off all treble and a bit of middle and the sound was a little better but it was not very loud. I had the Gain at 12 and the volume was at about 9'o clock and then feedback kicked in. I thought that if i had a preamp it would wprk a little better.
Now here's the great news. I tried a stereo instrument cable and voilá, there was volume! I could turn the Gain AND volume to 12 and yet no feedback, although it was knocking on the doors if I had turned it any louder.
That's it. I love the EBS.

Gig rig: TD650 head, Evolution ProLine 2x12" cab.

Rehearsal rig: Fafner head (grey stripe), Evolution Proline 4x10" cab (EBS nameplate fell off), SWR Big Bertha 2x15" cab.

RE: TD650 vs. Fafner, my vote is for 650 because it's more versatile and a bit more powerful. I think the Fafner is a tad bit more "lush" and tubey-sounding compared to the 650, even when the latter is in tube mode, but sometimes I prefer the 650's straight solid-state options. Also, despite supposedly being more "rock"ing, the Fafner Drive control doesn't seem to get as dirty as the 650. That'd be a big minus for me if I didn't also have the EBS Drive pedals (pedalboard post to follow).

Pedalboard: ValveDrive, WahOne, and entire black label pedal line, except the UniChorus is a grey label; 9V power supplied by EBS ADX-9 adapter w/ extensions; board also includes Korg DT-10BK tuner and Hughes&Kettner Rotosphere MKII Leslie simulator.

Once the EBS TremoLo comes out (argh, the waiting!), I think I may use it to replace the Rotosphere. It sounds quite cool, but I don't think I need a genuine Leslie sound; chorus+trem should fill my needs and free up some space. Then maybe I'll add a second compressor, an EQ pedal, and a switchbox so I can true-bypass all or most of the board... EBS may have really good buffer circuits, but I can still tell the difference when I have that many pedals strung in a row vs. going straight to the head (if nothing else, it forces me to turn up the master volume on the head.)

I've heard talk about a tube overdrive thing in the Drome combo... Any one care to explain how it might work?

I believe it's the same as in the HD350 and 650TD heads.

There is no tube overdrive in the Drome combo. You only have some sort of tube simulation pushing the character switch. It sounds the same as the circuit of the tube sim mode from the EBS multicomp pedal. Only the amplifier heads have an adjustable overdrive integrated.

I believe it's the same as in the HD350 and 650TD heads.

Just for the record. The HD350 only has tube simulation, whereas the HD650 has an actual (groove)tube inside which can be switched on/off and dialed in to your liking (BIG distortion possible), but even with the tube gain set to zero, switching the tube on gives your sound that little bit extra (IMHO as a TD650 owner ).

The cabs from EBS are really, really good!

update: the EvoPro 210 has gone.. I liked it's beautyful mids, but like the Neo's clear mids too.. and the newer is lighter, some louder -> more practical.
Playing alone, I liked the older cab's sound better... Neo is performing a bit better in band.

I need your help guys!

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on an EBS Drome Classic Combo but I don't know about the reliability factor in terms of EBS and if the tone will be what I am looking for.

I have decided that I am definately NOT a fan Neo Speakers in the least,because they have a decidedly more"Mid Forward"tone to my ears and seem to lack a certain amount of"sweetness".

Anyhow I don't want to plunk down the $900 + to buy the amp if it's not going to work for my needs.

I play in a lot of 3 piece classic rock bands with just 1 guitarist that have relatively small combos(Peavey Classic 30 and a Roland VGA-5)but I also play in louder funk driven horn bands and everything in between.

Please send me a PM and try to be as specific as possible.....
