I used to go to the Esport Center gym there, in Niittykumpu, but it's probably not the closest gym to Kilo. It's a pretty big gym, and there's another big gym in the new Esport Arena sports centre, right next to it.

Well, I took the Kilo apartment only for the good train connection to Pasila, where I have a summer job. I checked out some gyms nearby after I signed the papers, but I think the Leppävaara one's cost an arm and a leg, something like 70 eur per month. I heard there's one decent old-school gym in Pasila, so I might check that out, though.

Well... That was interesting mohawk, I didn't stall where I thought I would.

I immediately figured out that the routine was unbalanced. When doing the t pressups if you go down and then back up 3 times then it was too much for me. I did one press up, then one dumbbell up then the other then standing straight up. You might be able to do a press-up in between each. I did 5 times round for each set. I managed to do 4 times round on the 3rd set and decided to give up because my left wrist started to hurt from stabilising the dumbbell doing the press ups. I thought it would be the OHP that killed me but it makes sense that it was the press up because I am using my whole bodyweight not just the dumbbells. part way through the sets I had to stop for a few breaths but I never stopped for very long.
I feel knackered, not as knackered as usual but still knackered and I did work up a sweat.

Overall I would say.... interesting...

Interesting . . . well, maybe you'll have more luck with the next time (less wrist pain etc).

Of course be careful, the shift from BB to DB bench about the end of november last year caused my a bit of bother with my wrists, a bit of tendonitis, at some angles lost all strength in my left wrist (thank christ for being right handed :p )

since everyone seems to be posting gym accomplishments, I had a couple of personal bests this past weekend. 1000 lbs for 4 reps in the leg pres and 540lbs for 6 reps in the deadlift. not bad for someone pushing 50, eh ? no, I don't do drugs and never have.

Today, CF Football

5x3 Front Squat (225)

Followed by "Football Gone Bad"

95lb Thrusters
Push-ups
20'' box jump
Calorie Row
Double-Unders (two passes under feet with jump rope)

All exercises are performed for 1 minute and then immediately to the next station (5 exercises, 5 minutes) followed by a 1 minute rest. This is repeated for 3 rounds, like a fight. It was definately challenging.

You like your football dontcha?

I actually was a baseball player, but we follow a crossfit workout plan that is for football (American) players. Essentially you have a strength section and a metabolic section, where normal crossfit would only have one. It is more challenging because the weights used are considerably heavier. You can check out the workouts at www.crossfitfootball.com. You first do the strength portion to the right and follow it with the WOD in the middle of the site for your metabolic portion. I have lost about 7lbs in 2 week, and I was fit when I started doing the workouts.

What was it you said when I was on about loosing 3lbs a week? :p

Looks good, maybe jump on the bandwagon with that at some point to mix things up a bit.

My point was that I thought you were starving yourself on 1000 calories per day. I still eat tons, but all foods are non-processed. It is called the paleo diet, it is hard to stick with but it works. It is healthy to lose about 3lbs per week if you are doing it the right way. If you are really overweight and you stick with a good diet and training plan it is possible to lose more per week. Generally really de-conditioned people lose a lot of weight at first and it tapers off due to a rapid increase in muscle mass.

CF Football would be good for you, especially with rugby. You won't lose your Olympic lifts and you are forced to use all 3 metabolic pathways every week, thus increasing your body's ability to adapt to the unknown.

Owchies, Here's the list, 15 reps each...

Deadlift
Leg Press
DB Squats
Stiff Legged deadlift
Big tire flips
calf raises
closegrip bench
incline BB bench
Overhead press
chinups
dips
Lat Pulls
Pushups
back squats
Tricep machine
seated machine rows
DB bench
front bands
side bands
front squats
150 crunches

..... AWESOME! Officially my new favourite workout, it's a Friday and you're feeling good being done with the week... BAM! It's called the eagle 300 and is pulled out once every month or so, I'm really tired, but in a really good way :) .

If you are loosing weight you are eating less than your body requires either way ;)

It was more of an in-jest post anyways man :)

i'm going to give it a try, don't know how much time I'll have in the gym over the next months, looks like the CF is pretty demanding on time? Though I'll be there anyways and make sure to try it!

actually CF workouts are short. CF Football has a strength portion in addition to the WOD, so it is a bit longer, usually 45 minutes or less though.

Today was hell... 5x5 back squat with 5 rep max, followed by 10x2 dead press (perform reps on the top of the minute and 30 seconds) for 5 minutes. Then... Pull-Up HELL!!! 100 pull ups for time. My whole body is destroyed and it is only Monday!
