Finished a double workout on friday, we had monday off so we did wednesday's and friday's workout on friday. My friend and I both upped our squats, except he did 345 (bending the bar  ) and I did 135. *sigh*

'twas an awesome day untill I was rudely high crotched by my another guy while we wrestled and he *slipped*. My testicular region hurts and I'm in the air! :crying: Good workout anyway, gonna train hard this summer, don't know my goals yet. Bench and squat are my weak areas so probably work on those a lot. Do you think 225 squat and 150 bench is feasable? I have a 105 pound bench and I'm a big guy (200 pounds) just starting out so I'm still gaining very fast. Trying to lose weight before I gain to have more lean muscle so I'm sure with more eating I could up it even more, :hmm: . I'll show you guys the 5 day a week wrestling summer workout on monday, only doing the last three monday wednesday and friday right now.

Also, where the bar rests on back squats hurts, I have my head back and the bar where it is natural, my guess is I'm a pansy and will get used to it, but any advice?

Re pain with squats, you get used to the bar positioning and it stops hurting after a few weeks (max).

Your lifts will probably go up quite a bit before you gain much more in muscle mass. The initial boom in strength isn't to do with gaining mass, it's more to do with your body realising the muscle mass it has already and making full use of it it.

IME the bar tends to start bending from about 220lbs (100Kg) [this depends on the bar of course, but roughly from that area, the eleikos we have are pretty snappy]. If you want a goal :p

The 150 bench is easily feasible, the squat should be possible aswell :)

Speaking of squats I stalled on the second set today at 57.5kg, I could still have gotten the weight up but my form starte to go askew so I stopped. Bench press was fine at 35kg but bent over row I stalled on the last set at 35kg. I'm going to drop the squat to 50kg to make sure I can nail the form and I'm going to do the bent over row at the same weight next time.

Not been to the gym since friday, been doing some circuit-training-esque mix up with my DBs while stuck in studying though.

Using 15Kg DBs

10x bi curls
20x shoulder press
15x overhead tricep extension (one dumbell)
20x lunge (20x with each leg)
20x pushups

(going from one, directly to the other without a break. Taking a minute or two after completing the cycle, then repeating (do 3 times total) ).

Going to start mixing in some incline bench with the DBs aswell, probably some good mornings too (maybe some calf raises aswell). Though about including some DB snatch, but would rather have a heavier DB or kettlebell (excuse to buy one maybe?).

This is just trying to keep active, and even though it's only light, it's tiring (tri's & shoulders ache especially afterwards)!

I quite like circuit training with dumbbells, I saw one in a magazine that I would like to try out one time, i can't remember it exactly but I'll make one up that is similar and do that one when I can be bothered.

Start in a press-up position with dumbbells in your hands, go down and back up and do a t press up, then the same on the other side, then skip your feet up in between the dumbbells and stand up deadlifting the dumbbells, curl the DB's up to your shoulders then press them overhead, keeping the DB's overhead squat down and back up, then return to the starting position and repeat until you've had enough.

Sounds fun eh?

EDIT: just noticed it is similar to the burpees movement.

I've got exams from tomorrow til the 8th, will try it the week after that on my off days (going back to 3 day split).

But aye, sounds like a plan. Might try and do it within a strict time-frame, up the weight on the DBs (if it's using two, i could get up to 25kg a piece) and see how it goes.

I could probably do it now, im a litttttttlee bit high on caffeine, coffee coffee coffee. Had "16 cups" worth of pretty good stuff in the last hour or so :D :D, work that out to be 1.5g-2g of caffeine. I'm not going to sleep for a while like . . .

The thing I've noticed with circuit training style things (possibly not entirely right, possibly the way my body reacts to them) is that recovery time is much quicker.

But aye, it will hit you enough, and it's always worth mixing it up a bit. Could always do it through once with just the handles. Second time do it with 2.5Kg, then do it with 5Kg etc. You'll find the point where you feel it's hitting you hard enough (and then you can go higher to see if it is a reasonable limit) etc.

Thats a good point actually, just to make sure I'm worn through I could set it as a strict 2 minute rest and start with just the handles then just keep adding weight till I stall on one of the movements. I'd have to make sure I had all of my weights ready though for a quick switch-round.

Aye.

You could also do something like this:

Day 1 - Handles, 2.5Kg, 5Kg
Day 2 - 2.5Kg, 5Kg, 7.5Kg
Day 3 - 5Kg, 7.5Kg, 10Kg

Then when you start struggling to increase the weight go to (for instance)

-7.5Kg, 7.5Kg, 10Kg
-7.5Kg, 10Kg, 10Kg
-10Kg, 10Kg, 10Kg

Or something along those lines, so you know you are getting the most out of it?

That sounds like a good plan to me, I might do a 2 days on one day off kind of thing if I find my recovery is alright with it.

Shame you can't start on monday, but at least I can let you know how it goes :p

I'll measure up on saturday and see my improvements after 2 weeks, if it's any good I might keep doing it for a bit longer.

Excellent :) , I'll run through it was 2-4 weeks and say how it goes :)

We have been doing the CrossFit Football workouts, they are devastating. Every time I look at the workout I just shake my head. Check it out for some challenging athletic workouts. Do the strength portion first and then the daily workout of the day (WOD) for the metabolic portion.

Shall give that a look through :)

Did you mean for not was? that's the only way I can make that sentence work :p

The OHP is REALLY ticking me off now. I dropped down to 50kg for the squats and sailed through it then did 25kg for the OHP just as a warm-up and struggled, then went to 27.5kg as I was supposed to and stalled on the 4th rep, went back to 25kg to get some more reps and really struggled to get 7 reps out. Managed deadlifts at 65kg no problem though.

Yeah I did mean for, but, it was early, and I was elsewhere. Laser Applications & Engineering is not an easy subject :p

OHP can be one that takes time. Like I said, it's probably just that your body is making more use of your leg and back muscles right now as opposed to gaining more muscle for the strength. Where your shoulders are already at full capacity and needing more muscle (speculation of course)

Have you tried working in some incline bench?

I'll do it tomorrow after the bench press. What sort of angle to you think? I'll just go for the nearest I can as I've only got 3 settings for it :p

Just had another thought, some people do incline in place of the regular bench press for a while then switch back, do you think I should do that or just do incline after regular?

I'm thinking of changing my username, but I'm not sure what to, my only worry is that people won't know it's me and they'll be thinking 'Hey, where's that kid Bass Junkie?' when I'm right there :hiding:
