Yeah, I think it is easier to hit the calves than stop half way. I'm not really bouncing, but my body stops me, I don't stop my body! +1 to the bodybuilders, I always am dissapointed when I see a huge guy using either bad form or doing a small amount of weight. I mean how can you have THAT much muscle and bench 185?! Oh well, it's still better than me!

Bodybuilding is cool if that is what you are into, but it simply is not intense enough for me, plus it does not translate well to everyday activities and can reduce your speed and flexibility. I just know that if I took off across the parking lot in a dead sprint, there is no way that a person who does isolation training would be able to catch me. However, some of those guys look pretty good (as long as they do not overdo it) and some girls are into that more than a guy who can clean and jerk twice his body weight. This is similar to being a great bass player I guess...

Here are my current lifts.

I started around the 12th of May this year.

I started out with an empty bar on all the exercises because I had never done them before and I've got to:
Squat - 130Ibs
Bench Press - 80Ibs
Overhead Press - 40Ibs
Deadlift - 145Ibs

These are all for 5 sets of 5 reps each.

These are all not including the bar weight because I'm not sure how much it weighs at the moment.

Is this fairly good progress?

With the bar starting in may, I'd say that's pretty awesome. I'm at around that (less bench more squat less OHP) and I started march 29th with some weight on the bar. I'm not really a pro at this, but you are well above in progress to what I see around me as far as poundage per month. What's your exorcise plan like? Recently moved to the lineman workout in school. Ouch. Bench 10 8 6 4 2 Dumbell bench 12 10 8 Dumbell flies 10 8 6 Squat 10 8 6 4 pass a 7 kg ball back and forth as fast as you can x 20, calf raises BW (different positions) x 135 and then run. My chest and my calfes are killing me, hopefully will get used to it. We alternate days like this and days with cleans and other stuff.

I'm doing a routine called Stronglifts 5x5
The idea of it is to do 5 sets of 5 for most of the weight exercises to build your strength. I've been adding 5 pounds to each lift every-time I do one, however, this has and will obviously lead to deloads. So far, I've only deloaded in the overhead press. But it helps increase your lifts at a very fast rate.
Once I can squat 1.5x my bodyweight, the programme says you should move on to the intermediate program which has weekly increases instead of every gym session.

Thanks for the feedback.

Are these your maxes or what you do currently for 5x5 (confused about when you can squat 1.5 times BW)? That looks like a cool program, I'll probably look into it, 5 pounds a workout is pretty sweet. Currently heating my calves, ow. It's weird because anything stretching my calves hurts, but I can still sqaut and of course do arm stuff... I'll limp into the weight room and get at it tomorrow I guess. Any advice to get over new workout pain besides just wait it out and keep at it?

Those are my stats for 5x5. I'm pretty sure it's the point you reach 5x5 with 1.5x your BW that you think about going onto the more advanced program.

My soreness was never so bad that I couldn't carry on doing squats the next time. My soreness has basically stopped on my legs now. I still get quite sore from doing bench presses though, it's just a matter of getting past that stage I think.

I've been doing straight leg deadlift or trap bar deads, I tried normal with a bar and my shins were being scraped, I searched and this is pretty common, high socks when I go tomorrow for sure, any other advice? Also, when I catch a clean (from slightly above knee to shoulder cleans) should I catch it like a front squat? Also with the cleans, how low can I catch the bar before it doesn't count (using more leg when tired)? Excuse my noobishness, and thanks for the help. @mohawk I hate sets over 15, and love them around 8.
