the official "I hate NASCAR" thread

I know enough about nascar to know what I'm talking about. And I still think its the most idiotic, worthless "sport" ever invented.
So do those idiot music fans that make the same claims I stated about bass, or so they think. Until you have been behind the wheel, you have NO (zero, zilch, nada) idea, no matter how much you think you know from your life longs couch QB'ing experience.

I HAVE been behind the wheel, a little over 3 years worth of experience, and I can tell you it is the most physically demanding, scientific, and DIFFICULT things I have ever done. Millions of things factor into it, that I honestly wouldn't expect you to understand.

Much like the drunk asshats that gigs that think bass is a punks game, I don't give a rats ass what your uninformed opinion is either.

What really pisses me off here, are that people can generalize (rednecks, idiots, morons) on a subject, and their participants they know dick about, and not care who their ignorance offends.

Screw this

Tim, Tim, Tim. C'mon! It's just ones and zeros here on the TalkBass forums. You'll notice I did not say, "NASCAR? Pfffft."

Neither did I :) Actually, I have had no problems with anything you have had to say in these forums since I first came here. I wasn't referring to you, not sure what gave you that impression (then again, I haven't read this entire thread). Again, I don't care to watch nascar much either, it's just the oversimplification, and general disrespect from the uninformed, who in their 17 years existence on this earth can tell you how everything works. Not just this thread, the whole site. I read a lot of the lounge, but rarely ever post, I don't care to be a part of that action. This site as a whole is beginning to feel like it is outgrowing it's own good, at least for me.

Well of coarse, it's a total package.

But I wouldn't sell them short on torque.
0 to 100 is in under 2 1/2 seconds and lets not forget that those wings are producing about 5000 pounds of downforce. That's alot of aero drag. So it ain't like they're just slipping through the air

The Enzo street ferrari is getting 484 FT/LBs of torque. So I would imagine they're getting alot more than that out of a full blown race engine. Not bad for an engine with cylinders the size of baby food jars

But anyway, non of this has anything to do with why I hate NASCAR
Yea, totally different.
Though...
It could work, albeit poorly, with a super duper high stall converter, a super duper high gear ratio in the rear axle and a tranny that could take those 18k rpms. Make sure everything is balanced. Id hate for my driveshaft and axel to spin at those speeds. I think my whole rear would wobble off and grenade. Those rpms would kill these longer stroke engines - which are good for propelling heavy street cars - like the resident drag racer said.

Its just apples and oranges.

Hey Mike, give me some info on your camaro. I love chevys and thats a good 1/4 time.

477 BBC, 13 to 1 compression, .710" roller cam, Merlin rec port heads, Team G intake, Dominator carb, TH400, 8" converter, 12 bolt with 4.10 gears. Street tires and mufflers, 3600 lbs with me in it.

Sweet. Thats a fuggin big cam. Is that a third gen?
Good lord, are these your heads?
Im guessing aluminum heads from the Cr ratio and the set up for drag racing
Link Removed
Those ports are massive.

Are you running a 4.223 (.060) bore and a 4.250 stroke?

People, this car is a drag car. Make no mistake.

Second gen, and the last year of the seconds.
I tried to upload a pic, but theyre all too big, and I'm too computer illiterate to know how to resize a pic.

Im going to hold off on the questions. Too bad im not local. Id love to see it. Let me know if you ever go the gainesville track.

Im just thinking about the tire curling torque from that sweet rat.

crap. nascar is at sears point this weekend, just up the road. i really wish i could go now. this thread has me all excited for some racing.

of course, i might be able to get some free tickets to superbike down at laguna seca in a few weeks!
Now that's some seriously fun racing to watch. Alot more passing since the bikes aren't dependent on aerodynamics to make downforce for traction.

My heads are the 310 cc Merlins, but (unfortunately) theyre cast iron.

The engine is a .100" over 454, 4.350" bore and a 4.000" stroke. It will be coming out soon for a freshening, and in its place will go my 468 (4.310" bore and 4.000" stroke), with oval port heads, lower compression (11.8 to 1) and a more streetable solid lifter cam. The 468 is only two tenths and two mph slower at the track, versus the 477.

It is a drag car, but still retains all the lights, wipers, real glass roll up windows, etc.....and the only fiberglass part is the hood. The car sees limited street use now, and will see more with the 468.

laguna seca is the craziest track to watch superbikes on. the corkscrew just rawks. those guys flop back and forth going through those turns.... i'd post a picture of the track map, but it really doesn't do it justice. the hills are what make that track nuts.

So Tim, are you signing on to Munji's latest oh-so-clever oblique slight of autocross? Just want to know if I think you're a hyprocrite or just innocently oblivious to the fact that he's being a real wee wee? I give you the benefit of the doubt, but inquiring minds want to know...

:)

Nice. Yea, I did notice that the car + driver weight isnt that low, so its gotta be full of stuff you could have stripped for weight.
A street/strip car has gotta be more fun IMHO. Iron is good for that anyway. Personally, i love seeing street/strip chevys those out when Im driving around. But, since its only two tenths slower, it still hauls. I guess 'sleeper' stoplight races with expensive porsches, mercedes, bmw's etc cars has left along time ago. Cant hide the loud BBC "lub lub lub lub" coming out of the exhaust.

Have I raced before? No. But if you read one of my earlier posts, I said my dad did the exact same thing, only with motorcycles. During his day he even hit some of the nascar tracks (like talladega). I'm willing to bet motocycles are a far more physically demanding experience than a car is, anyday.

I'm also sure racing like Moto Gp, F1, and rally is far more of a harder style racing to pull off. Going 180 into a wide left turn is one thing. Maybe F1 cars aren't as fast, but when the turns are far narrower and much more unexpected, you're in for a tougher experience. I'm not against racing. Just overly repetitive racing.

What I absolutely love is how you claim me for generalizing, yet you're doing the exact same thing about teens (read your lower post).

Oblique? I thought it was less than subtle. Perhaps I am being a wee wee, but that says more about me than it does about autocross. Why would you even care what I have to say about it? Do you think that my mirthful comments are going to influence someone not to get interested in the sport? Bottom line, I don't know a heck of a lot about autocross. I'm sure it's a fun hobby, just like soldering is for me.

I confess that I've been getting sucked in a little lately, especially over in the lobby. Heck, I've even got jt in a snit right now. I'm going to have to back off a little bit, I can tell, because too many folks in here have such thin skins, a joke becomes a dangerous thing.

I now realize that, as the forum's only living Total Hyper-Elite Member, I'm going to have to switch my flavor to vanilla ... French vanilla, perhaps, to set a proper example around here. You're going to see a kinder, gentler Munjibunga from now on. So you just hold your breath until I say something uncontroversial.
