The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Hi I'd like to join the Hondo madness and be cult member #14.
I have a 1986 Fame series Hondo bass that I've had for a couple years that my uncle gave me that I love and has been my main player since then. :bassist:

Hey can I join the cult?

My first bass was a Hondo "All Star", a natural wood w/ white p/g P-bass copy. I can't say I regret not having it because I gave it to my nephew years ago and he learned on it and today is fronting his own band, so it's all good.

Several years ago I wanted an inexpensive ABG to have for those, you know, ABG situations. so I got another Hondo!

Here's my H1000, currently strung with Elixirs but probably will try a set of TI flats in the near future.

I have performed with it many times at smaller jams and the occasional private VFW function, and it has always done well and gotten many compliments on the sound. I'm proud of my $125 Hondo.

Thanks!

Oo that acoustic has a nice big body to it, must sound pretty full

Hey lunarpollen, cool bass on post 4! :bassist:

I think my Hondo sounds really good as far as ABG's go, it is great unamp'ed for practice or maybe with another acoustic. I have a small battery amp (Crate TX30) that I usually bring along at the minimum for small get togethers.

It really comes into it's own through a proper bass amp though, but a "feedback buster" soundhole cover is mandatory to prevent the squeals.

When I got it I installed a strap button at the heel, otherwise I really haven't had to fuss with it.

I was in a rock/country band once and we had to do a gig without our drummer (he had a motorcycle accident two days before and broke his arm). It could have been disaster but it turned out really well actually, the day before I went through our setlist and practiced adding a golpe technique to my playing using the Hondo, and it translated really well to the event (private birthday party). Actually several seniors in the audience got up and danced and really got into our playing, and I wonder if that would have been the case if we had our drummer and the volume and intensity would have been up a few more notches.

Anyway, I've got Spring fever so here's a few more pics I snapped today. Take care.

don't be fooled by the price tag, I wouldn't drop that much on it, the pawn shop just marks everything for twice(or more) than what they'll take.

DogBone,
Not real sure, I'll grab it if it's still there when I have the extra cash in a couple weeks, but I can't test out the electronics cuz they don't have any bass amps at the shop so it's a little sketchy. But I really like the look of it and it seems to play pretty well, but is definitely in need of some new string and a proper setup. plus, I don't really "need" aother 4 string, I've just gotten my first 6er and I'm hooked, just really like the way this thing looks and feels.

That there is a deluxe 880, had one as my first 'real' bass. Tell you this much though, that sucker'll drive a golf ball about 50 yards or so and still stay in tune....:D

Hey guys. About 6-10 days ago I thought I posted a big long description and pictures of a hondo I picked up from my mother who found it for me.

I bookmarked the forum and was going to come back and see what anyone might have chimed in with and I don't see the post. It was my first post so I could be crazy and messed it up... or I am thinking I might have cursed a time or two in it and it got removed?

Anyone recall it?

Thanks for any feedback! :)
