The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

I got my Hondo II P-bass back in '83-'84. It is a quilted maple top with a sunburst. It has all gold/brass hardware, and I played it for almost 20 years. Then I went to a 5'er and never looked back. I did restring it to BEAD, but I dont play it much any more. It has always played real well, and sounded real good after I put a SD quarter pouder in it. No pix, but I would be honored to be in the club!

I have a Hondo too! Was hoping one of you guys could help me figure out what kind of hondo it is though. I've found one just like it but it's a Hondo II and it doesnt have the same logo on it. Here's some pictures of mine:

From what i think i know about these. Its a Hondo professional, not sure if it has a specific model number. The older ones like that were made of solid wood and came loaded with dimarzio pups. You know you can wiki hondo guitars might help a little more. Yes i did it and YES I AM A NERD. And i secretly think Jauqo wants to sell all his basses and get a hondo to join the cult :D:D J/K

I looked for this club and I finally found it.... Can I get a member number??? I bought my first Hondo in 1981. I still own the it. It is probably the bast bass I have ever owned and it is still one of my favorites.

By the way, I don't know the exact model number of my Longhorn. It is a 1981 Hondo Longhorn. It is completely all original. 24 frets, Dimarzio Split Coil Pickup, Phase switch, Volume/Tone controls, My first set of Jim Dunlop Strap locks from 1983, I have the original fitted hard shell case. Over the years I have bought 3 more of these because I love them so much, but the original one is the only one I have kept.

Very cool. Yeah, I think 12 sounds about right, sorry, been waaaaay busy with work. Haven't even had time to take/post pics of my 'baby' hondo, even though it's mutant, a runt AND too many strings :) :hides: oh well. Bought it to play around on, thing is like brand new. Evilbay has it's uses sometimes. I even actually like the bright yellow color of it.

I think that is the forever mistery. No one really knows too much about any certain hondo and most people don't care (but the twelve of us now :) ). Hondo has made sooooooo many different guitars over the years i dont think even the company themselves could of kept track. We are forever to roam the earth in search of the Grail, so to speak, of true Hondo knowledge.

My first bass was a Hondo. I bought it for $50 from a friend of a friend. It was a white pbass with a maple neck. IT was stained from something. It had this big beefy brass looking bridge on it... I don't know if it was OEM or not.

It also had a blue fuzzy toy bird super glued to body near the bridge, a big Greatful Dead Peace Sign sicker on it, and the initials JPE carved into the bottom of the neck. The tone pot never worked. It also had flats on it. It sounded like you were playing underwater.

I sold it. I miss it.

Heh, I've been sick, and in need of some minor surgery (inguinal hernia, surgery in a couple weeks). But my Hondo will probably get taken out of the closet and used for a different band I may get involved with soon....

Sorry to hear that, hope all goes well for you! Glad to hear your hondo is still getting love though.
Honestly, mine have been taking a back seat to my Valenti recently, however, I plan on pulling them out and rocking them a bit this weekend.

Gregg- Nice to hear from another Hondo lover- I would say it's worth it to try to find one on ebay, usually they are fairly cheap. I don't think I have ever considered getting rid of mine, because I know no one will ever appreciate it as much as I do.

Hondo thread to the top!

My guitarist informed me today that's he'll be acquiring a used Hondo bass here soon, hopefully next week! He's getting it for $70 or so from a friend. Apparently he played it a long time ago and was impressed with it, but can't remember what model it was. My guess is it'll be a P-Bass, as he's convinced it's something Fenderish, and I've never seen a Hondo J (anyone know if they exist?). He's buying it sight unseen, but for that price why not, he can't be in that bad of shape, right?

Anyways, I'm pumped for a new Hondo to be at my disposal. I'll post pics when it arrives :D
