One odd thing, when I was researching the Maruszczyk Jake, I found a video of this very bass demoed:
So... I'm trying to put an order together. But there are soooooo many choices! Jake vs Elwood, scale, hundreds of pickup/preamp combinations, not to mention colors and woods.
If I spent as much time practicing as I have on the configurator over the last couple of weeks, I'd be a virtuoso by now!

I know what you mean! Took me few days to play around with configurator and another few days to finalize it. Finally ordered it via US dealer with Adrian's help. 102 more days to go...

Luckily, I configured and ordered my basses before the configurator's birth!
Can anyone offer an opinion on Maruszczyk flatwounds? They do a medium scale 45-105 I'm interested in. Made in Europe apparently.
In the past I've had TI flats, Labella DTF L and M, Chromes, GHS and Pyramid Golds. The Maruszczyks seem very affordable... but I wonder what they sound like.
I realise this could/should really go under Strings, but I thought perhaps someone has had them on a new bass from the company, so there might be more chance of a reply here...

Geez... this is hard, especially for those of us who can't make a decision! On one hand, I want to keep it as simple and lightweight as possible. Then the options start to creep in!

Every player has his or her own philosophy, so giving advice is always difficult! In your position, I would try this:
I believe you are planning an MM/P pickup configuration. Now this already gives you a ton of different sounds when blending from one p'up to the other. If you add a series/single coil/parallel switch for the MM, your options are endless.
That said, I would go passive and ask Adrian which p'ups he recommends specifically for a passive bass (there are many demo videos for p'ups available too). Once you have played the bass for a while and feel you are missing a preamp, you can still install one later. Passive would follow your "keep it simple" idea, save a few Gramms of weight and prevent you from having to worry about batteries. My basses are all passive.
As for the body shape, since you are going short scale, I would prefer the Elwood for this configuration. No particular reason, just personal aesthetic preference.
Regarding the tonewoods, I don't know what kind of sound you are looking for. Describe it to Adrian and he will be able to make a good suggestion.
Maybe my two cents can help you a bit. In any case, please let us know how you proceed!

this is done on maruszczyk strings as far as i remember
