On my design I initially picked matt finished neck and fingerboard. I double checked with Adrian and he said that was the case. I like the feel and look of Fender gloss neck and fingerboard so since it's just the beginning of the production I asked to change it to gloss. I hope I made the right call... Any opinions? Body will be all gloss and so will be the matching headstock.

most customers choose a satin neck. As it can get "sticky" with gloss / sweat. However in the end it's entirely about what you prefer. Some don't mind but very vast majority of. customers / builds are done gloss head and body with Satin neck.

I got the vintage tinted matte neck and birdseye fingerboard. Its looks and feels great, but then I really don't like gloss necks very much.

Darn it. I told Adrian this morning to change it to gloss. I should have checked with the crew here before doing so... Not sure he will change that back to satin again ... While he is very understanding, I would understand that this might be a hassle to do (keep changing it back and forth).

You can always try. Knowing him i'm sure it's OK.
If. this morning he could change , i'm sure he can still change back (i guess, definitely not speaking for him)

I was always under the impression that a satin finish was easier for the manufacturer to do than a gloss finish anyway. I personally hate gloss finish on anything. I always go matte/satin if I can.

Satin is just easier to play, gloss can tend to be sticky and a little slower. The downside to satin is that it exposes the wood, so you'll have to keep it well hydrated with oil every now and then. If Adrian refuses to switch, it's really quick easy to sand the gloss off and "build your own" satin finish.

yes sir , a satin is easier.

Gloss requires more layers and about 2 weeks of drying time before being polish. And ... last but not least, it add weight to a build.

Satin necks are still sealed and finished. Raw maple is not a good idea. I've never done anything special to any of mine.

Sorry in my head I was referring to a neck treated as I mentioned below my sentence regarding the oiling, a sanded down neck. I'm guessing gloss necks that have been sanded down should be treated with something every now and then, at least that's what I've been told.

Ok, clubbers - I have a question.

I'm currently maybe looking a partner/alternative/backup/replacement for my parts P-bass, something with a bridge pickup and came across Maruszczyk. What are they like (quality, feel, etc.)?

I was looking into European manufacturers overall to see if anyone offers a souped up P basses for a reasonable price. Mayones (well, no P but a classic J which I'm not ruling out..) and Sandberg are the only ones I found so far. And now Maruszczyk - good to know they are out there :)

If you've read through this thread, you know there a lot of happy owners of Fender style Maruszczyks. I don't know what you consider a reasonable price, but for what I paid for my Jake, I don't know of anyone who could deliver a custom configured bass of that quality for less.

I agree with every word ^....

My experience with Maruszczyk / Mensinger has been nothing less than a delight....

Great quality at a sensible price in this day and age?......Not yet impossible :bassist:
