I think that it would NEED a pickguard as there will be an open cavity for the vol/tone/1/4" jack controls.

I find it mad that you can get a fully custom instrument for cheaper than an American made Fender (at least here in Europe). Tell me the name of another bass builder where you can choose all of this for that price:

-body wood
-neck and fretboard wood
-type of inlays
-fretboard radius
-body colour and finish
-hardware colour
-number of strings
-nut colour
-type of logo and its colour
-type of hardware
-preamp
-type of pickups + brand
-string spacing
-scale length
-number of frets

there is literally millions of combinations. I'm 100% positive that there's not a single Maruszczyk out there that is 100% identical to mine. And that's just awesome. Plus it's really well built for the money.

I owned two Kiesel/Carvin basses before my Maru, and they will do all of those except the hardware, pickup/preamp brands, spacing, and scale length. But for me, those happened to be the most important. I think prices are similar depending on the build, but I would say the Maru is a better instrument.

I thought I'd throw these configurator pics out there for two basses (Elwood L5a 32 and L4p 34) that are on order (hoping for early April and early May) to complement the two (L4p 32, Cazpar 5p 32) I already have. To echo some recent posts above, Adrian's combination of quality, customization (dimensions, aesthetics, electronics, even weight) and pricing is pretty compelling.

She has arrived! After 14 Weeks finally. Adrian wrote me yesterday in the evening. I will get the "Sofa Shot" today and see her for the first Time. Tomorrow i will go to Adrian and pick her up, but he likes to do a Video with her first.

Maybe i'll take some Photos or a short Video from my Trip to Bassheaven.

I have ordered several builds now and am still playing with what combination of pickups and preamp I prefer. I am looking forward to trying a Jake 4A with Nordstand Zen Blades + a Darkglass pre amp when it arrives. What is you favorite choices?

I need to hear the Zen Blades for myself, in person. From the clips and sounds that I have heard they sound good, but i have been led down this path before with pickups.....I really like the Delano's. SBC's and Time Square SBC's.

Just back from Adrian.

He said kind Regards to all of you. Oh Man i saw some nice Custom Basses waiting for their new Owners.

I wanted to make some Photos or a Video, but i was so exited, that i just forget the Smartphone..

Adrian just finished a Video with my Joker as i arrived. I always thought and i still think, the Guy that takes the "Couch Photos" makes a great Job, but the Reality is so much better. Maaaan what an unbelivable beautiful Bass. I could sit all Day in Front of it, just watchin', HaHaHa. The Look and the Feel of tis roasted flamed Maple Neck is to go on the Knees for. This is a Piece of Art and sounds just like Bassheaven. Superflexible with its switchable HB's. I am happy to went with Flats.

I am in Love and ah...i forgot the Weight: 3,6Kg = 7,9Ibs

Question for those Players who prefer passive basses.... would it not make sense when ordering your custom build to pay the relatively small up charge for an Maruszczyk active bass with an active/passive volume knob, so you can have the benefit of active and passive? Thoughts?

For me, a custom bass is getting what I want and need. I'm not in the habit of spending money on something I don't want.

I have nothing against active basses in general and have owned a few over the years. However, I now prefer passive basses and therefore do not see the "benefit" of the active option, let alone would I be willing to pay an upcharge for it.

In earlier days i allways thought it would be good to have an active bass. Over the Years, i found out, that i like to keep it simple. An Amp that sounds the way i like in neutral position and where i only have to make minor adjustments and a passive Bass is all i need, but that said...the new Joker B as a passive Bass is flexible as Hell. With the additional option to switch each HB in series/parallel/single coil you have tons of options.

Just came back from the Rehearsal Room. I am absolutely blown away. Speechless. This Bass is absolute Killer.

One further Recommendation: If you like Flatwounds, you have to try Adrians Flats!!!

Over the years I've fluctuated between active and passive basses. I realised recently that I prefer the simplicity of a passive bass. I never use the onboard EQ on a bass, I prefer to tailor the sound on my preamp pedal.
That being said, my Maruszczyk Elwood 5Ca is indeed active, but I find myself using it in passive (push/pull volume knob) most times. My reasoning for getting it with a preamp was "I want one of these super Jazzes, and they all have a preamp" plus I had that misconception (?) that 5 strings needed a preamp for a better B string. And while I got to admit that the sound is a bit tighter with the preamp engaged, which helps the B string, I prefer the overall sound of the bass in passive.

Consequently, my next Maruszczyk will be passive.

That's actually my plan for my first order. I normally play passive, but part of that may be that I just never had a bass with a good preamp.
