I'm glad I managed to put an idea out there and get Adrian on board with it to the point of making it an actual option!
Funny thing is... I'm still not sure I'll go for this finish yet... might go with gloss still... but at least the option is out there for whoever wants it...
I thought about your question and remembered I have a great example of a zero fret + string tree that works amazingly well!! Not a Maruszczyk, but still an example of this working well.
I have a couple questions for all the Maruszczyk players out there.
Since I'm living in Germany for a while and have been a fan of Wojtek Pilichowski for years, I can't help but be highly interested in having a couple Maruszczyk basses built while I'm here. Probably a fretted 35" scale Frog 5 string and a 34" scale fretless Frog 5 string as well.
For the features that are offered, the Maruszczyk basses seem like an absolute steal! The main shop here in Germany is only about 4 hours away from where I live now.
I'd like to know people's impressions of the Bassculture 38 and 48 pickups. How to the Bassculture pickups compare to the Delano SBC and Xtender pickups. I've never had the chance to hear either in person.
I'd also like to know people's opinions of the Noll brand onboard pre-amps and the Maruszczyk pre-amps that are offered.

No offense intended, but that looks horrible. The string spacing is inconsistent -- and perhaps because of the wonky string spacing at the nut, the alignment of the tuner posts appears to be off. (I realize many makers of basses & guitars make no effort to put their tuner posts in alignment with the strings, but those don't look like they tried to align them but failed.) The string tree looks in part like a desperate attempt to fix the issue IMO.
Might have to try them in person. They both sound great in the Public Peace demos. I doubt any of them would disappoint.
I've tried Delano SBC's and the ferrite MM model. Both are very punchy with clean extended highs. Full-range tone.
My unreserved recommendation would be: Take a free Saturday (or any other day) and some time and go to Adrian. It is best to write to him beforehand so that he knows that you want to visit him. In Adrian's showroom you can try out all bass models and pickups / preamps and form a direct opinion. It is worthwhile in any case and you then order the dream bass based on your own experiences.
Going to Adrian's showroom would be very dangerous for my bank account.
I've had the same thoughts! I now also live only 3 hours from the Warwick factory as well. The only good thing is that new Warwick basses are now pricing themselves out of any competitive consideration, so I highly doubt I'll be heading over there.
I seriously need to put in a couple Maruszczyk orders before they figure out they could double the price for their basses and still be far more affordable than any competitors.
Just placed another order today for this Cazpar with the Joker headstock. Ended up selling 3 really nice Basses to order my 2 Cazpars..I hope I made the right decision

Question to the members. When ordering custom builds, would you choose 2 band or 3 band pre amps? and why?
And just a point to consider, when ordering a new build. We ordered a Frog build with a Maruszczyk active pre amp, and the one my guy chose (3MS), did NOT have a tone control for when he switched to passive mode - the only one of the 4 Maru pre amp choices that didn't have that feature. Adrian has send a new stacked pot to fix the issue and make my guy happy.

I have more passive basses than active basses, so that's what I'm used to, and I like them a lot. But as you know, I'm considering ordering a active Frog. To answer your question, I'd go with a three band pre with a passive tone control ability. Specifically, the Maruszczyk Toneformer 3MS/TP. Since I don't have much experience with on board preamps, I have no allegiance to any brand, so I figured I'd try the house brand.
Has anyone ordered an Elwood with Frog/Sputnik headstock? I would love to see some pictures, especially of 6 stringers

did you have that Mustang PJ with the wood grain pickguard and Nord blade pickups? I seem to remember you posting that in the mustang group a while ago.
My only short scale experience is with my mustang PJ (with aguilars) and my Maruszczyk elwood 5, but I have to imagine you'll really enjoy your Cazpars. Everything about my elwood is top notch, and it feels and sounds like home.

Question about duty and taxes to the US members who have ordered a custom Maruszczyk build. Were you charged duty on your bass, because it made in the EU? Were you charged state sales tax? I honestly am asking for a US friend. When answering please either answer by PM or be sensitive in your reply, if necessary.
