The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Received my couch pic this morning for my 30" Jake double P...Looks like they might have forgotten to add my Aquilar pre-amp though...Should have 4 knobs and a side jack...Randy is looking into it right now..it might have to be sent back to the shop.

Very nice looking bass! Sorry to hear of the possibility it's been incorrectly fitted though. Let us know.

Wow that's beautiful. But that's such a bummer it's gotta be sent back. Good thing you eagle-eyed it.

Really dig the double P look with the Delanos!

Very nice.

"Forgot" seems inconceivable, and it looks like a stack knob closest to output jack.

Randy got back to me and Adrian said they overlooked the passive tone knob and did not install it which led to the input jack being on the front and not on the side. Pre-amp is installed...Adrian told Randy that they might be able order a volume knob that can act as a passive tone when pulled but the input jack will still be on the front and not on the side like what I had ordered and the config pic showed...I will prob just take the bass as is even though not happy about it at all.

Remind Randy that the point of ordering a custom configuration is that you end up with what you want. They need to fix their error or give you a substantial discount.

Yeah, sorry that's a bummer and they should fix the error. I don't want the output jack on the front of the body of the bass, ever!

They could easily remedy this by using the hole on the front of the bass for the additional tone knob and drilling the output jack on the side of the body. I'd have them install a nice aluminum output jack plate.

An output Jack is larger than a tone knob. It won't look right. You can use stacked knobs. In the end, you should have the choice of having it rebuilt. I'm sure someone else would purchase the Instrument. Mistakes happen and what other manufacturer will give you so many choices at such amazing prices.
This is definitely a first world problem.

Might not be able to use a 90-degree cable tip with that jack.

The size of the actual pickups gives it a very different look than the mock-up.

I much prefer output jack on the front for a lot of practical reasons, and the size proportion of the pickups on the mock-up, but if you love it overall get a decent discount and some solution installed that works for you.

That way when you re-sell you'll come closer to breaking even, and the subsequent buyer likely won't care or will even prefer it the way it is *but* a push-pull vol knob to access passive tone seems a recipe for screw-ups on the fly IMO.

Best of luck getting this sorted.

Here's a quick fix, without moving the output jack to the side (assuming you're okay with the that).

You could replace the volume pot with a stacked pot volume/tone and then add a switch for active/passive since the vol active/passive goes away (new hole required). I have this exact same layout on one of my OBP3 installs. This would be the easiest and least amount of rework on the bass.

Thank you for all the good advice and ideas, I appreciate. I really do like how it looks since I picked the top and the body is Swamp Ash (no longer a choice). Randy is coming up with a couple of solutions and getting back to me. I like Barts Idea of adding a switch for passive/active or maybe a 3 way switch for the pickup selection and having a passive tone there where the balance knob is? I could live with the input jack in front although I would prefer it on the side. It is a great looking bass to me. We shall see what Adrian and Randy come up with.

I'm normally not a fan of P-style basses. They're blasé, and they've been done to death. But THAT is a P with uniqueness, something I value highly. I'd rock that.

My Elwood 5 has the Delano Times Square pickups in combination with the Sonar 3, very transparent tone. Perhaps you can substitute the Nordstrand with the Delano. Also I heard rumors that the Nordstrand are manufactured now in China and the quality is not the same. So check on that too.

Where did you hear that rumor? Our workshop is in Redlands, CA. N pickups are made here.
Alternatively NDC pickups are made by Ibanez using our specs for certain Ibanez basses. They are not sold to any other builders.

I believe that some remediation is in order. A Substantial discount is a bit over the top.
I'm glad that a lot of posters to this thread don't actually own any of these instruments. I have an instrument already ordered. I have a 2nd one that I'm about to put a deposit down on with Randy.
I have owned Fodera, Ken Smith etc.
You can't find a better value anywhere!
I'm sure Adrian is not making a killing on these instruments. I'm sure labor costs in Poland are cheaper than in most of the EU or USA but come on.
Price a new American made Fender and compare it to an Elwood or Jake. It's laughable!
If there's sloppy fretwork or other craftsmanship issues that's legitimate.
A substantial discount is what in your opinion?
I'm sure Adrian will make it right.

Nearly every bass that shop makes is different than any before it. There's a lot of things to keep track of. When I ordered my Jake several years ago, I got the couch pic and noticed it had the wrong pickup. I immediately talked to my dealer (not Randy) and it was fixed before it shipped. Stuff happens and Adrian's customer service is indeed excellent.

It sounds like TK will be able to get this resolved to his satisfaction. If that couldn't be done, he is entitled to either not accept the bass and get a refund, get a new bass made to specs, or make a settlement. That's how contracts work. How much a settlement should be is dependent on how disappointed the buyer is in the final product.

While I agree with most of your points, the entire purpose of ordering a bass using a tool like the Configurator with a company like Maruszczyk is to get exactly what you want when you order it. Spending a couple of grand to get something that isn't exactly what you want, when it was correct on the Configurator, is not the value you are paying for, even if it is a good deal on paper compared to Fenders.

No doubt that Randy and Adrian will work out a resolution to good satisfaction, they are both very good guys. Little things can get missed in production and they're not that big of a deal usually. I had an order that was delayed by Nordstrand's lack of timely fulfillment and had a couple of other details that were missed and things were resolved by Randy/Adrian. They do great work and want their players to be happy with their instruments.

Not sure about the comment above about most posters not owning these instruments, I think most of the active posters do in fact, own or have owned multiples of these instruments… that's where the value of this forum actually comes in to play, because so many owners are very active here.

I'm not saying to not say anything. I'm saying that mistakes happen and to be reasonable about it. If it's caught before it ships, it's much easier to fix things.
after it ships, and especially when it's coming to North America, shipping costs are very expensive. It makes things much more difficult.
I'm saying that it may not be worth it to ship here, if too many do so.
Adrian might also decide no deviation from the configurator.
Kiesel is very selective of what options they offer and their 10 day return policy is not so for every option.
I really can't think of many bass builders that offer what Adrian does.
