He did say that Adrian said when he tested the Bass that the Bass Culture pickup was not working properly and he ordered a replacement pickup and will install it when it comes in, about a week and then ship the Bass to me. So glad Adrian plays/tests all the orders as they come in. :cool:

Nice! I was doing my best to be patient waiting for my fretless frog but hearing how fast your Frog got done, now I’m impatient again!

Omg. I also am waiting on another bass too. But I highly doubt I’ll be getting that one at the same time as my Maruszczyk. Much longer lead time. :(But I’m cool with that because I’ll have my Maruszczyk during that time. :D:bassist:

Hi! I would like to order Maruszczyk 5 string bass. The point is to build great session workhorse. I need to get great quality of craftsmanship, the most versatile and useful sounding pickups, electronics and overall playability and look to suits me in every situation. Producers, engineers and FOH guys must love sounds from this bass! Must cut and sit in the mix like a knife! Could you recommend me some options to build instrument like that? Most music I play is pop/rock kind of thing. So need modern sounds to modern music but still be available to get those tones for blues/ classic rock vintage music too. Thanks!

Get whatever bass you want, with Delano pickups and the Maruszczyk Toneformer 3MS/TP preamp. You're going to get great quality. Only you can decide how its looks will fit in your every situation. And only you can decide how playable it is. Do you like a slender neck? Or a thick neck?

The body shape would be to your preference: Elwood, Frog, Paddock. My suggestion is to get a pair of humbuckers that you can have a three way switch for single, series and parallel. On top of that, make sure to add a Mid switch (I like 473, 800, and 1.8 - mine has the toneformer).

Listen to as many video Adrian has on his YouTube channel. Those videos can help choose wood, and electronics.

Ya. Hard to get more versatile than that. I personally like the Delano ones because they are still pretty noiseless in “single coil.” I guess they are really double humbuckers. DELANO MC 4 FE/M2

My non-Maru bass with 2 Delano quad coil soap bars and John East preamp gives me everything I need.

I can get a close enough representation of the sizzle of a music man, the growl of a J-Bass and a passive p-bass.

Pickups are wired with 3-way switches. The neck pickup is wired for P, reverse P, or all 4 coils series. The bridge is wired bridge coil, series, parallel. I've got an active/passive option. It's killer and super versatile. That John East pre does just about everything.

Pretty much my recommendation too. But the John East pre has sweepable mids, which I love! And I use often. It's what goes from cutting through to sitting comfortably in the mix.

Now I have Musicman Stingray 4 H. Maybe I write here what I like/don't like with it so will be easier to understand what my preferences are.
1. Neck is a little bit too wide. I think that Jazz Bass neck would be easier for me to playing because I don't have big hands so any big, wide necks/fretboards with wide string spacing are not for me. And especially with 5 string difficulties may be even bigger.
2. This bass is quite heavy. I think that could be a little bit lighter.
3. I like bridge which is massive and stable. Tone-wise I like that this bass is powerfull, clean, have good electronics (but not as good as I think bass should have. Especially in mids and treble.)
4. I think that just one humbucker close to bridge is not very versatile thing. Of course I can get a lot of useful sounds but I think that there's not so much useful thump from mids and nice meaty lows. Probably because of lack of neck pickup. Instead there's a lot of treble (even though I roll off treble on preamp still a lot of high end! Sometimes I think that even too much but maybe that's the thing and it helps to sit better in the mix?), sometimes lack of this nice round low mid (500hz is actually kind of "honk" than nice warm growl which cut through in many great records) and lows are rather thunderous instead nice and round in the whole range (probably because of type of pickup and placement of it). Don't get me wrong. It's StingRay. So this sound is iconic in bass world. But I think that this tone is not so much used in today music. Musicians and producers looking for something rounder than harsh and with "unusual character" which most of the time doesn't fit to the music.
5. Just active electronics is not what we always need as a bass players. Sometimes simple, more "vintage" and "natural" sound of bass is necessary and none of only-active basses can pretend that. So active/passivewhich sounds great in both modes will be good solution.
6. I like basses which looks like standard "Fender-ish" thing. Musicman, G&L shapes and so on. Most of Maruszczyk basses have too strange shapes which I don't like too much.I don't like fancy shmancy stuff like unnecessary pickguards, pot plates, light and complicated bridges, "amazing" woods which cost a fortune but not improve sound of instrument at all - just "looking good" (but good looking woods are important too - I like natural and great wood grain. My StingRay is natural and I love nice maple neck and ash grain on its body. Just don't like too fancy things which just increase price of the instrument but are not necessary to have them).
Those are all things comes to my mind right now so my new instrument must be improved in all those aspects ;)
