One thing to note, that may or may not be important to you… is that the pickup placement on the configuration image may not be accurate to the actual pickup configuration for the instrument. If you have a specific pickup placement requirement, you should confirm the placement dimensions to ensure you get what you're expecting (e.g. - distance from the 12th fret to the bridge/neck pickups). I learned this after waiting 5+ mos for a Paddock that I had ordered.

Soundwise I think that "whatever can be made to work", of course this is kind of simplyfying but I think you get the idea. No different than buying any other used bass online IMO.

I'd guess it's a pretty safe bet. Definitely from a build quality stand point. If it meets your weight and neck profile preferences you should be all good.

You can always change out pickups / electronics if desired.

I tend to be a play before I buy type of guy. But now that I'm clear about instrument specs, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Maru online without playing first.

Curious question for the Maruszczyk hive, with the previous discussion about bridges why don't more folks go for the Hipshot Kickass bridge?

They are nice bridges, I've bought several of these for builds that I've done. I think they're a better value ($65-100) and in many ways a better bridge than most others.

Why? …the string spacing adjustment is much better than many other bridges, including the other hipshot alternatives. The brass insert saddles have quite a bit of lateral adjustment as you can see in this pict and the bridge comes in black, chrome, gold and nickel.

So why don't more people order these?

High mass bridges were really in the picture a few years ago, and I've installed a few on my basses. But it wasn't really my thing, mostly due to the weight. And those bridges look bulky on a short scale bass.

Also, the Hipshot B- and Vintage style bridges look nice and could be ordered with the string spacing that I prefer.

Yeah when I received mine, I was expecting the pickups to be closer to the bridge as they were in the configuration photos… but unfortunately, when I received it they were both fairly far forward and it was a fretless instrument, so that wasn't going work for me at all.

Thought about going headless on this, order placed earlier this week, but instead will build that one myself.

32" Elwood L, quilted ash over alder + wenge veneer, wenge fretboard. Delano quad coil pickup, standard bridge and tuners, and a ramp will be added.

Six strings, a strong preference. May release one or more of the fives after this one is delivered.

Holy cow, the backside of that bass at 0:26 of the video is stunning!

As an aside, it's interesting how vibrato techniques are different between fretted and fretless basses. Fretless, it's more like on a cello.

I was also surprised regarding pickup placement when I got my bass. Not as big a deal for me, though I would have preferred the actual placement be more like what it showed in the configurator.

So yeah, if pickup placement is important for someone, it's a probably good idea to specify it when placing an order.

When you order a bass with Jazz Bass style pickups it's standard to have them in either 60's or 70's Fender Spacing. So it's important to specify. My Elwood headless pictured in my profile has 70's spacing where the bridge Pickup is slightly closer to the bridge.
I wouldn't go by a computer configuration to be perfect. I ordered a Jake with a split pickup. It should be where it is on a Fender Precision.
Just like if you order a one pup MM style bass. It should be in the MM Sweet spot. When you are choosing soap bar style pups, there's more variation within specific builders.

Good point. I watched videos from Public Peace's Youtube-channel and thought that hey, their basses sound good so have to admit that I didn't even think of the pickup placement, just kinda trusted the builder. And with humbuckers I'm not too worried about it.
