I wouldn’t go by a computer configuration to be perfect. I ordered a Jake with a split pickup. It should be where it is on a Fender Precision.
Just like if you order a one pup MM style bass. It should be in the MM Sweet spot. When you are choosing soap bar style pups, there’s more variation within specific builders.

I'm one of the very few people who believe pickup placement doesn't really matter much. The closer you get to the bridge, the more it matters, of course, because of the nature of the string vibrations. But other than that, there's a lot of room to fudge, and most people won't be able to tell a difference without an A/B comparison.

Sorry - it's in the listing - but it's just a touch over 9 lbs, and I'm struggling with basses north of 8 lbs. I've been very lucky to find a couple of basses (a 5 and a 4) that are both right at 8 lbs. I was REALLY jazzed about the idea of the double thunderbird pick-up setup on this one - but have to be realistic about my situation with weights. (All my gigs are standing - not sitting). I wish I had studio stuff going on where I was seated - but that's not my world these days.

Most People aren’t Musicians! You can make the same statements about types of wood, pickups, electronics etc. so I beg to differ! ✌️

Anyone know exactly what the difference is between the Elwood L and Elwood C? I see the L is chambered, and have read the body is "slightly different." Just want to know how...I'm looking at an L, but don't want a substantially smaller body.

Here's what I'm thinking for a build :)

Most people disagree with me. That's why I said I'm one of the few who believe what I believe about it. But that's OK, we can coexist in the same musical universe.

Anyone using the haeussel bassbar pickups? Apparently the thunderbird pickups are just the bassbar's with a different cover. Would love to hear some thoughts on them...I wanted TB pickups, but prefer the black covers, so would go with the regular bassbar.

I have Haeussel Bassbars on my Adamovic bass, matched with a Glockenklang preamp. Nikola Adamovic is one of those mad geniuses that somehow comes up with something nobody else can do (or do as well). It's the most present sounding instrument I own. It has to do with more than just the pickups, to be sure, but obviously the pickups play a huge role.

Do you have both a Maruszczyk and an Adamovic? I was looking Adamovic basses earlier (came across them while looking for info on bass bars). I'm curious how they compare.

Honest feedback please: I’m not sold on how the back turned out. Ordered a maple back, clear finish. Also ordered with a Tele switch (reliability) and no pickups rings (finger comfort, I don’t use picks).

Kind of torn because the wait causes unreasonable expectations on what’s possible. Am I being a primadonna and this is fine? Am willing to be called a jerk when I deserve it.

I think it turned out nice. But I'm unclear on what you mean -- the back of the neck or the back of the body? Did you want the backside of the guitar to be uncolored? And if so, was that communicated clearly in the order?

The rest looks fine to me, although the knobs and switch don't seem to be in the most ergonomic positions IMHO.

Sort of strange to me that the fingerboard is a light maple and the back of the neck looks roasted. Was that your specific request? Kind of an unusual blend.

Yeah, the neck is an odd setup but that was by request. I like roasted maple for the feel, weight, and stability, but I like plain maple for visibility in low light. The neck looks great and exactly what I ordered.

The original spec sheet was for a flamed maple back, natural color. Instead it’s a plain alder body, painted a plain blue. It was explained to me that the chambered construction makes a fancy back impossible. The switch couldn’t be done because of the curve of the top.

All of it I understand intellectually, just wish I got a heads up. Would have made some different choices up front and all.

I dunno. Am I overreacting? It’s just a guitar.
