In general I'd say you should get what you ordered. But I think the guitar looks great with the blue back. As for the maple/roasted maple - I have an old Carvin with a mahogany neck and maple board and it looks weird, but hey, if you like it, cool.

But if pickup rings eliminate playability - was that specified on the order? If you're not going to be able to play it because they're in the way, that would be a deal breaker and I'd let him know you'd want a rebuild just based on that.

The all important part is: When was that explained to you? Did you still have a chance to change/cancel your order at that point? If so, then you accepted the conditions and can't complain now. If you didn't have a chance to change anything anymore, then the mistake is on them for accepting an order they should have known they can't fulfill and not communicating sooner. You would be in no obligation to accept the guitar under this circumstances and it wouldn't make you a bad person, either.

But as always: reach out and talk to them directly. Adrian is a good guy.

Adrian is usually brief, but clear, about what can and can't be done. Is "original spec sheet" pre or post his response to what you submitted via the configurator?

Honest feedback please: I'm not sold on how the back turned out. Ordered a maple back, clear finish. Also ordered with a Tele switch (reliability) and no pickups rings (finger comfort, I don't use picks).

Kind of torn because the wait causes unreasonable expectations on what's possible. Am I being a primadonna and this is fine? Am willing to be called a jerk when I deserve it.

If those items are documented on the custom order sheet, I'd hold them to it. If not, there's not much you can do.

Considering it's a chambered body and not carved/laminate it makes sense they couldn't do a figured back. I'm surprised they're chambering that style of guitar in the first place though, seems much more common to do a laminate top/back and a center block. Personally the painted back wouldn't bother me, especially considering the plain alder.

The pickup rings would annoy me more than the back. I may be wrong but I don't think you can install pickups without rings once the body is routed for them.

Anyone get tracking info yet for a Bass order that they might be waiting for?
I received my couch pic almost 2 weeks ago but Adrian has not shipped it yet. He was out of the country last week and then he is taking off Easter weekend from 3/29-4/1 so maybe next week he will ship but no real answer yet.Just curious if others that received a couch pic are also waiting for tracking? :thumbsup:

A couple questions for the group.

1. How slim are the Elwood 5-string necks? Most similar to Fender, Ibanez, Spector, or what common brand?

2. How is the low B on the Elwood? I want to do a 34-in scale so I'm trying to decide if folks are happy with the low B or if I should consider the multi-scale?

About the neck... When I ordered my Frog, I said that I like slender necks. They ended up making my neck 20mm deep at the first fret rather than their normal 21mm. I reeeeally like the result, and I've never had any impression that my neck was less stable than it should be. The moral of the story is you can describe what you want in a neck, and they might be able to make accommodations.

I went for the standard Modern C shape on my Elwood 5L fretless and find it pretty comfortable. I don't have any common brand basses to compare it to side by side but it feels a little slimmer than a P. I chose roasted maple for lightness, stability and "ping".

Very pleased with the low B. It's perfectly in keeping tension, feel and tone-wise with the rest of the bass. Truly sings, especially around first position. I definitely feel no need for multi-scale on this bass.

Lots of compliments on this one so far and I'm really diggin' the sound of the OBP-1 and DCBs together. Honestly, it's not far off from my Sadowsky Will Lee 5 with soaps - they sound very similar to each other.

I've went round and round trying to get the setup just right. Had put a rocker on the frets trying to figure out why I was getting some problematic buzzing no matter what I did, especially on the B string, and did find some high ones - 2, 7, 9, and 19 to be exact. While I'd love to not have an issue, things happen and I do like to be able to get the action pretty dang low. Dropped it off this morning to spend a few days at the PLEK spa and know it'll come back playing like a million bucks.

PLEK is always well-spent money in my opinion. If the techs know what they're doing, it will play as good as is possible for that bass to play when they're done with it.
