There is no option for an oiled neck. Is that something you can request or is it just gloss or matte?

It seems as though it's always worth asking Adrian. Though I can't recall ever seeing/reading about a Maru with an oiled neck.

Incidentally, the non-gloss neck option is more like a satin than a matte.

It has a very smooth and quick feel. But it does feel coated. It doesn't feel like wood; you don't feel a grain.

Not a criticism by any means; I'm just making you aware.

Too many options! Turner + Lusithand pre or Walbuckers and Noll 3P? There's a big price difference but it seems like the Walbuckers might be enough? Anyone ever compare these configurations?

I don't see many prople choosing nitro as finish. I chose it for my build which is due in about one month. Let's hope mine will be fine…

What is it that was awful on yours? Too stick? Not done correctly? Felt bad under your tumb? Could you see it in the sofa shot?

Was the nitro body ok?

I chose nitro in order to have the thinner finish possible and also because I don't mind if it thin out or cracks during the years. I actually think it gives personnality compared to thick hard poly finishes.

I'm crossing fingers that they got better at it since your built.

This is a fretless Jazzus with Macassar Ebony board, alder body, walnut burl top.

I specced my Elwood with the Noll 3P, and while it's a great-sounding preamp - dead quiet, powerful, musical at every setting - it feels like overkill, in retrospect. I rarely make the frequency changes it allows.

Another thing to be aware of with the Noll preamp is that it uses 4/6mm concentric pots. It turns out that these are a very uncommon size, and the only knobs that fit them are the ones that Warwick use on their basses. So if it turns out you're not that keen on the Warwick-style knobs, then tough: you're pretty much stuck with them.

Me personally, I'd go with a Lusithand pre with multicoils, but that's because I used to have a Wal and loved the filter-based preamp, and it gave me more creative control, as opposed to the corrective control of traditional EQ.

Honestly, I wasn't even convinced I got a nitro finish. It came as shiny as any poly finish and had no nitro scent. The neck was glossy and tacky just like the body.

If you're worried about the price of the Turner Multicoils and Lusithand Double NFP Special, you can use the non-special Lusithand Double NFP with regular pickups -- they don't list it on their configurator, but it's an option you can request. In my fretless, I went with Delano SBC humbuckers (with series/single coil/parallel switches) and the non-special Lusithand Double NFP preamp.

When I ordered my Frog, I asked for -- and received -- a few custom options that were not listed. An oiled neck could very well be possible, even though it's not listed.,

I just contacted Adiran. As usual, he replied very quickly. His response was that they do not offer oiled necks. He said that they feel good to begin with but then get gummed up after a while. I have to say that thus wasn't my experience with my Lakland neck but they are oiled and waxed. Anyway, I'm just going to get the matte finish.

"We are thankful for informing us about this bug and I am glad to tell you that we fixed it and you are now able to properly use tha jazzus configurator again."

I have been really impressed with their communication and I'm going to order it now!

I'm not saying it isn't a beautiful bass in its own right, just not what I expected. Especially since the comparisons they do of configurator and couch pics because those all look so similar.

I have my new couch pic! What a beauty it turned into. Adrian and his team did a wonderful job.
