Anyone have an Ash bodied 5 string Elwood? I am interested in one, but I am curious as to the weight.

I had an alder that was 9.7lbs. but didn't feel heavy. You can ask for a piece of light weight ash or have it chambered. I think solid medium weight ash it going to give you better/faster response from the maple board. Light ash and or chambering is going to give you a darker tone, like any semi hollow body instrument, with less snap and sustain. You're giving up more than weight with these options, IMO and experience. The best sounding J% i ever played was an Atelier Z solid ash with maple fb but it weighed a ton, probably about 14 lbs. but it killed.

My bass showed up a day early. I got it yesterday...played it last night at the jazz jam. It’s freaking awesome. I have had some terrific basses, but this one has earned its place and is exactly how I wanted it. I’ll post pics later!

So when I messed around with it on the configurator the silver M logo looks more subtle and blended better with the chrome hardware and that’s why I chose the silver M logo instead of the black one but now that I see it in real life I probably would’ve like the black better but it’s kind a cool to have a mystery bass!

Well, I keep experimenting with pickups on my Jake - started with Haussels, then tried pup's from Coils Boutique (Israel) and now - Delano's PC4 AL + JC4 AL! Gonna make photos and write a review after a couple of gigs this week (one acoustic and one electric - I believe it's enough to make a short review

Two-tone sunburst, but you're right it looks very much like tobacco burst. Maybe it's the flamed maple cap that makes it look that way.

FROG 4A Beta - UPDATE

So, last night I took my Frog to a band rehearsal .... a heavy alternative rock trio type of thing .... Up until last night I had only been playing the Frog at home through a small Hartke practice amp and since I live on the top floor of an apartment building with hardwood floors, obviously I can't play loud AT ALL without pissing off the people who live below me or next to me.

I normally bring a Fender J bass or a Music Man Stingray to rehearsal but last night I threw a new set of punchy rounds on her and brought her along ..... At the rehearsal spot I play through a Mesa Boogie Subway D800+ head and Mesa 6X10 cab .... and we play LOUD ....

Prior to last night, I have to admit I wasn't too impressed with the sound of my Frog, I know nobody wants to hear that here, and it's just my opinion but still .... Anyway ..... when I plugged the Frog in last night and got to really turn up the volume and tweak the amp head's tone .... I WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY by how great this bass sounds .... The PreAmp is almost dangerous as I felt like I was doing structural damage to the buildings foundation that we were rehearsing in, especially in drop D tuning.

I found the Frog with a fresh set of rounds sounds very similar to my Warwick Corvette only DEEPER and FULLER lows ... I have a new found respect for this bass and she'll definitely be getting more time in the rotation moving forward.

There's nothing on the market quite like a Frog. The ergonomics are just ingenious. Somehow, every single fret is equally and effortlessly accessible on a 24 fret 34" scale bass. AND your plucking hand is exactly where you want it to be. It's just remarkable. This model should really be the new industry standard for comfort and playability. Then you get to the sound, and it can sound great quiet for more low key stuff, but if you turn it up and punch it it'll punch back. It's not one of these polite basses that tops out when you hit it hard. The pickup switching options are actually usable and authentic sounding, although the bass honestly sounds perfect with everything set to neutral right in the middle. All this, and it fits with a band like a Fender! In my view, this is the best model on the market. Nothing else I've played feels as much like a bass designed by a bass player.
