I have a 32" scale Joker (with carbon rods) and a 33" Leaf (also with carbon rods) and have never needed to touch the truss rod on either one.

Maruszczyk necks are on the slim side with string spacing options as narrow as 17mm (slim like Ibanez!), though most are 18 or 19mm. For the best bets on action, I'd look for laminated necks with carbon rods. All three of my 33-35" necks are good, one with very-low action and two with medium-low. My most-played isn't the lowest action. It's the one with the mojo tone (resonance of a bantamweight with the control and character of a middleweight), no custom options (purchased in stock off the public peace web site), the funniest-look, and the trickiest setup. Go figure. This one is neck thru, laminated with carbon rods and 18mm spacing. I seem to fight with this one every time I change the strings, but then we make up. It helps that the truss rod works. Build quality is high but wood always brings luck into the equation.

How are people liking the stock Maruszczyk brand single coils J pickups? Oddly enough from the demos I've heard, that might be the sound I'm chasing. Also, those are the only pickups they don't sell on their website.

1. How is the neck, would you consider it to be reasonably thin for someone with medium hands? A comparison would be fine.
2. The Delano Xtender pickups: would you consider those to be 'hot" enough to do rock bass on the harder side, perhaps metal?
I wouldn't be asking if this wasn't a mail-order company I'm dealing with and I could play this guitar in person. I'm sensitive to thick necks like the Spector Euro, I prefer a moderate neck like my other current instruments. Thanks for any help you have to offer.
Notes: I love the look of it in red and I adore the switchable pickups on my Corvette $$ so this really, really appeals to me. I've been playing and looking for a 5-string bass that inspires, and this could be it.

You'll be fine. I had one years ago and replaced it with a 32" Cazpar (smaller profiled body but smacks of the Frog).

I realize this may not help but I have a Fretless Elwood with Maruszczyk Double J/P pickups and it has yet to be told it sounds bad.
I thought about this one as well, I will say I dealt with the this place on an amp, and they were great to deal with.
Indeed! They really are great to deal with. I've avoided going 5-string for years but more and more I seem to be doing things to get around having one, which doesn't make sense to me either.... and this would be one hell of a way to join in, lol

I'll agree with Riis and chime in here, you can't go wrong with that configuration it will be an amazing instrument.
I've had both the Frog headless 5 and the Cazpar headless 5. To compare the necks on each to each other the Frog neck was thinner front to back. It actually had an amazing neck on it. The only thing I could compare it to that was even close was my Skjold Drakkar 5 the necks on those two were fairly similar. The Frog is incredibly well, balanced, and very comfortable to play.
Those Delano extender pickups sound great as well, I've only had experience with the quad coils. The Frog was the inspiration for this build I did with the big ole Delano Xtenders

Yes, thin. I choose 18mm string spacing, but you can go even narrower with 17mm. Consider inquiring about nut width options, especially if you go with 17mm. The 17mm with a narrow nut would be close to an Ibanez SR. With 18mm spacing, it's just a little more relaxed but still thin, narrow and fast.

Yes, bright and clear; mine sound great with overdrive and distortion. They are not as bright as Dingwall FDN3 pups; more comparable to FDV. I really like the pickup switches with these. I use all 3 settings: serial for the hottest output, parallel for clean and quite, single-coil for the maximum transparency.

She's home, safe and sound. And heavy. Heavier than my Corvette, that was a surprise! I saw 9.5 pounds listed, no way is this that light.
I haven't had much time with her, just a few strums but she plays VERY LOUD, very clear and very quick. Unfortunately I need a tuner pedal, it didn't even occur to me that the bass wouldn't accommodate a clip tuner. My fault, but this has been a three day whirlwind that included a birthday party
And yeah, the music room is a spare bedroom that I use just a 2x10" cab for, but I've lately been playing in my motorcycle/multi-use workshop with my FOH gear where I can be alone, play at a good volume and have crystal-clear sound coming back at me from a 3000W total system (set at around -35db). As soon as I get back from my workout session, I have a beer and three hours set aside. I'll tune off my Gretsch Streamliner, which is down there at the 'shop most of the time lately. Maybe I'll even hang my One Lap of America memorablia (stacked in front of the stereo gear) tonight so that the workshop looks more 'homey'.
Will gig Saturday night with the 'vette but the next weekend is another gig. Might be her debut gig, we'll see.
