The place I rehearse at now has flouro lights that make at lot of noise when I used the neck pickup on my Heir 4. The bridge pickup gives no problem, but I prefer the tone of the neck for most songs.

Is changing the pickup the only practical way to stop this? If so, is any particular model recommended?

Just a question for the MTD faithful. Readers of this thread may know I have an Heir 5 string up for sale/trade in the classified section. I also have listed locally. Local guy has offered me a vintage Tobias Growler 4 string (with some serious wear/mojo on it) in trade.I haven't had the chance to play it yet, but will in a few days. Given that there is some base connection between these two brands, maybe you forumites could give me some advice on whether this is a good trade? Any thoughts appreciated.

Well Growlers have gone up for around 600-800 on TB classifieds but most of them have been in pretty good shape from what I can tell. I think if they were in similar condition it would be a good trade. Does it come with an intact hard case? Does yours? Maybe that could be the tipping point. If you decide to sell it in the future it seems likely that you could get 500-600. Besides... you both save on shipping.
I was offered a growler trade for my artist but I had only played a couple Tobias basses and I never loved the necks; I didn't want to take the risk. But if you like it; go for it.

Just picked up a Beautiful, heavily modded KZ4. What tuners do you use for the BF tuning system and does it matter/make a difference?

I recently picked up a Kingston Heir 5.....love the bass.....but after a rehearsal and a show.....my wrist was slightly sore. I'm not one to wear my bass low, or anything. I'd say the neck joint was around my belly button/belt buckle region.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thoughts?

I picked up an Heir last Friday and learned about the Buzz Feiten tuning requirements. I'm at work so I don't have pictures of the bass, but I'm wondering if my bass even uses the tuning system.

Buzz Feiten's website says the nuts are made of bone with a lightning bolt insignia. My nut appears to be a dark gray plastic or graphite and there is no lightning bolt design. I do not have B.F. tuner, but after tuning all strings to E as suggested on B.F.'s site, I plucked my open strings and saw that the open tuning was spot on.

The B.F. site isn't really that helpful. Can anybody tell me what my chances are here?

Placement of the zero fret negates the need for an actual offset nut by Buzz Feiten...if you have a zero fret, then you're BF compatible!

I got a Killer B in on trade once, it was an incredible bass in both playing and tone. It also sold in like 5 days, people really love those older Tobias's. I've never played a Growler, but if the neck shape is any similar to a Killer B, then it should be a great bass for you. It's all a matter of opinion, though! I know some people who hate new MTD's and love old Tobias's, and others that hate old Tobias's but love new MTD's!
