The Official MTD USA Thread

yeah, not too much longer...the wenge ramp is in progress, the neck has been carved and fretted...i sent glenn an email last night saying 'just a couple more weeks' and he assured me that everything was on track...then around midnight i got the picture...i'm assuming that it got color in the last couple of days...man, i'm stoked...the body looks hot

Hi all. Long time, no post...

I've been involved with a budding on-line 'social network' site for wine geeks (www.openwineconsortium.org), and I thought it might be interesting to create something similar for MTD lovers.

I put up a very simple, bare-bones version of this on [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] to try it out. Just wondering if anyone out there in TalkBass land might be interested in participating in something like this?

Cheers!

It kind of looks like the pickups are thinner as well, and more widely spaced apart.

Alright, here's some closer pics of the bass, if that doesn't answer the question let me know.

Well, here is the body of my bass. There are some definite differences here between mine, which I believe is pretty standard MTD design, and yours, which seems to have some differences. Is your bass a 24 fret model? The truss rod cover as well as the pickups in your bass look very different. The string spacing looks like it might be a little tighter as well, but it is hard to tell.

Yup, let's do a side by side

- The truss rod cover is definetely smaller and a slightly different shape

- My pick-ups aren't soap bars, (not sure what they are exactly)

I wonder if you can get a different cover for those pick ups? This would look cool with one of those wood finish ones.

Call me crazy, but those look like the p'ups on my Pre Gibson Tobias. I don't think those are the MTD Bart p'ups. Not sure what's up with the truss rod cover. Maybe shoot an email to Mike Tobias with pics and ask him what he thinks.

Just don't do it in the next two weeks so he has more time to work on my fretless which is almost done.:D:hiding:

I've got the docs that Bassflute had received from Mike actually, it's legit, has his signature on the headstock as well, originally built for a fellow Dale James.

and yea, it's a 24 fret neck, short scale.

That's a pic off his myspace page, I did a bit of research.

I don't think anyone is questioning that it is a true MTD, it just seems to have some features that we've never seen before.

I have been having serious MTD gas lately. Does anybody know where I could find a used MTD 635? My gas is getting out of control. :help: Oh yeah, BTW, strange0, I'm one of Cams students too. I think my lessons are right after yours. I'm the guy with the long curly hair. I've played that MTD before, it was amazing. Hope you enjoy it.

Steve1, had no idea! That's awesome, man it's funny how small this little world is. Did Cam fix your F*****? (I refuse to spell that word out in this thread)

This is what I tell everyone about playing the 6 string, it's like waking up next to a beautiful woman. On my MTD Korean 5, I can maybe go 1.5 hours before I get sloppy, this thing, 2.5 hours, my band rehersal Thursday was a revelation for me.

Apparently before this bass ended up at Long & McQuade it was on Craig's list, my guitarist remembers seeing it.
