The Official MTD USA Thread

hey dirtbird that's a beautiful MTD 535...
maple neck + ebony board...hmm killer combo..I bet that bass sound amazing.
I haven't hear an MTD that sound bad, all of them sounds nice..

two thumbs up to Mike.

absolutely!

Insanely nice bass!! :)

:D

Really nice bass! What are the specs?

Thought it should meet its "sister"!

Well hello sister! Thats a nice bass! Peizo bridge? Is there no mid-selector switch on that? What's the contol layout?

Mine will be Alder body, maple/ebony neck (and "Audi" redwood burl - but I guess you know that part already.) I think it will rule! :)

What does not rule, however, is that my new bass is stuck at a UPS depot in Canada at the moment, due to some missing export documents. I had hoped it would arrive in the UK by this weekend, but I don't think that will happen now. :bawl:

dirtbird and Georges, those are gorgeous! Congratulations to you both. I can only imagine how nice those are in person.

cheers mate, and I will find out how nice by Monday I hope.

Update: I literally just received a mail a couple of minutes ago to say that the export glitches are all ironed out, so the bass will be on the move again very soon. Maybe it'll be in Heathrow by the morning! :hyper::D

Right, how am I going to get some sleep tonight?!

Here is a pic of my 6 string that I just recently became the proud owner of. Having this one reminds me of why I regretted selling my first MTD.

Yes it has the piezo bridge, the mid selector is a push pull knob.
Controls are: Volume, Piezo/magnetic PUs balance, Magnetic PUs balance, Bass, Mid w/ push pull for freq selection, Treble.

hi Georges, that sounds very interesting - how does the piezo affect the overall tone? What kind of settings do typically use with it?
I've always been under the impression that piezo bridges on bass guitars were more commonly found on fretless basses, although my old Yamaha TRB5P had a piezo bridge that I didn't really use. Maybe it's all about how to use them? (and I don't).

On another note - I've been thinking recently if there's a general consensus whether there are any amp/cab combinations people think complement the US MTD's particularly well?
I know this might be very subjective though ;)
I'm very happy with my current rig (MB F500 -> ACME LowB2), but I've not gigged an MTD through it yet, although my Groove Shoppe GS5 sounds immense through it.

The latest update is that my new MTD is in the UK and will be out for delivery on Monday - when I will be at work!:scowl:
So it will probably be Tuesday at the earliest before I get my mits on it. This sucks.

I'm not using the piezo PU alone, I sometimes mix it with magnetic PUs. It bring a kind of "air" in the sound.
As you said it, it is particularly useful on fretless basses to sound like double bass.
As I'm only a fretted bass player, and as the shop offered me the piezo bridge, I added it to the specs when I ordered the bass.
Fact is my bass is a replica of a Namm 2007 or 2008 model with the same specs that was already sold when I saw it.
I really like it, but it is not the bass I use the most (it is my ash/wenge or my tulipwood/wenge)

My current collection. The greenburst is my newest addition, Enjoy :)
Wow! Nice! I've never seen that many 435's collected in one place before. Of course, with me, it'd be 4 5 strings, not 5 4 strings. ;) :D

But I only own two right now, and to be honest, I'm pretty happy. The latest one I got is just so totally "my" bass it's scary. Fits me better than any of the other 535's I've ever had.
