The Official MTD USA Thread

I guess I need to shoot a couple new pics of my two 535's and post them up. Have to keep up with you guys, you know... sort of... :)
That would be nice! :)
It would be very nice indeed!
Ok. Here's a little fun I had with the camera. I just threw the basses down and this is how they landed. ;)

That maple board and walnut is just amazing looking... perfect.

And, I hate to say it (gosh, I hate to say it)... but..... those...... OK....... aaarhggg........ THOSE WOOD KNOBS LOOK GREAT ON THAT BASS. Whew, there, I said it. Don't let anyone else know.:p

Mos def, Vic! Those are probably the best pics I have seen of your ash/walnut/ash/maple 535. I really do need to play that one of these days! Where did you get those knobs? They are really sharp.
David King of King basses. SUPER cool guy, easy to work with, quick turnaround, great product quality, and very reasonable prices. And yeah, it's a definite bring next time I head out east!!

That maple board and walnut is just amazing looking... perfect.
Thanks! I know how hard to please you are on the hippie sammich stuff, so much appreciated. :)

HAHA!!! Ok, we got this done, now we just have to get you on a P bass... ;) :D :D

not a big fan of wood knobs, but the ones on the maple board bass are wonderful...is that ebony and walnut, or?
Thanks! They're ebony with crotch walnut inserts in the top. I told him I still basically wanted "black" knobs to match the hardware, but also something to compliment the top. He nailed it.

I also like to point out that, on the Marilyn knobs, those knobs are the same wood layer aesthetic as the body. Alder barrel, with thin purple and black layers, topped by water cured redwood. It's a detail few notice, but I like it. :)

A side shot was requested, but I forgot to do that more recently for the ash/walnut bass. However, in a shot I took a while back, both the side layers and also the "walnut rainbow" is really visible. I just really love how many different colors are in this particular piece of walnut.

Vic, your Marilyn is my favorite MTD of all time.
Wow! Thanks. The two things that stand out on that bass for me is the coloring on the top and the flaming in the board. I have to keep telling people there is no stain, paint, or otherwise humanly added coloring of any kind in that top. That's all in the wood. Also, it's hard to see because it's that dark blistered Gaboon ebony, but there's also a distinct diagonal zebra flame figure to the wood as well. I've personally never seen that on any other bass, ever.

You can kinda' see it in this picture. So hard to photograph that feature...

Seeing that up close further illustrates my comparison to an Oreo..... I would totally eat that. It looks delicious.

Well, the time has come for me to offer up my MTD 535-21 (#746) for sale, since I've acquired fLaT-fIfTh's most-awesome 635 as of this afternoon.

I bought it from fellow TB-er Saluki about two years ago, and have played it very lightly during that time -- it generally sees one set of church services every other month, but not much more than that.

SPECS
Body combo: Maple spalt over ash
Neck: Rosewood over maple
Pics: http://s809.photobucket.com/albums/zz19/brunoschubert/MTD 535-21/
Tone: Traditional "warm/round" with the edge and clarity that you can only get from Mike's workmanship and custom Bart electronics.
Condition: 9/10. Has been played, and has a few bumps, but nothing that is easy to notice. In the spirit of full disclosure, the "worst" blemish is that the tippy-top of the headstock was chipped, and the chipped maple was glued back on. You can see this in the photobucket pictures.
Price: Asking what I paid for it from Saluki for a quick sale -- $2600 firm, plus actual shipping. Will ship in MTD padded gig bag.

I thought I'd mention it in this forum first, prior to listing it in the "for sale" forum over the weekend.

Here is a link to Vic's quick review:

PM me if interested, thanks.

WOAH! Congrats!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... :D Man, I musta' been drinking the magic koolaid that night, huh? Maybe a few too many hot toddies on that cold February night? Man, those wacky terms I used... LOL! :)

Oh, and for the record, I'm still bummed I missed out on this bass, but I don't have the money for it anyway, so happily, it doesn't matter. :)
