Nice MTD!!
It looks to me that the pickups are slimmer and placement is different than the usual 6 string MTD.
They look more like off the shelf passive Bartolini pickups. Everything that is different about that bass could be exactly why I dug it so much, and why it sounded different than other MTD's I had heard before.
Well whatever she has it's a killer sound.... And I have the build sheet from mike Tobias..... I'll have to take a closer look and see if the pups are different or just slimmer....
Here's the sheet..... Custom brats like ll the others..... The ash wenge wenge is awesome...... Wish I could get used to the 17mm spacing though... I'll try for another day or so.... But my giant hand la are having a hard time adapting.... I have 3 mtd 535's and a fodera emperor deluxe ..... All have 19mm spacing..... Now

Fender doesn't do Summer NAMM, but we are staying in touch with them and will definitely let folks know the deets as they become available.
Very well. Unfortunately, Daniel was forced to lay down and total his BMW 1100 on the ride to Nashville, but he escaped unharmed (body armor, ftw!). Mike is doing great, and he showed us some off the hook pics of wood he has on hand!

Mike generally only shares info like this with the future owners, and we don't really have any right to ask Mike who his customers are, so really, the only thing we can hope for is some of them are TB'ers and are already planning on sharing some info at some point. Otherwise, we might be able to ask Mike to share some wood billet pics, but honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to pester him with that kinda' thing and potentially delay someone's new beauty.
I'd just say treat this as an FYI that Mike is continuing to move forward and get into really cool stuff... as he always has... so if you're considering ordering a new MTD, make sure to talk to Mike early in the process and ask him what his latest favorite woods are... especially if they apply to what you've told him is the sound you're going for, but really, this should always happen anyway.

Good point. What he showed us were pics of wood he has on hand which will someday be made into basses. I've edited my original post to reflect this.
Wow... is Mike exploring new woods besides the current popular ones? Lately there are a lot of Makore MTDs. I wonder what's next.

He said it looks a lot like Mahogany, and loves the mids it has. He's pretty stoked about that wood in particular right now.
