All my MTD's are 34" scale and all the B's are fantastic. I've owned over 10 MTD's, mostly 35" and I do think they have a bit more tension (can't fight physics), but the 34's are no slouches. Don't miss the extra inch at all.

Awesome basses! How does the sound of the super pickups differ from the normal ones?

I do. My band is a female fronted group and we do classic rock, new rock and a little country. I have a few 535's and they all perform wonderfully. I agree with you, they have a great tone assuming you know how to work the onboard eq.........sometimes you have to tweak it a little. Since I have switched to the MTD's from my old jazz basses, I have got more compliments on my bass tone.

The Super pickups are dual coils with the ability to switch to single coil so they are very versatile. When putting them in a regular 535/635 instead of the Super 5/6 the spacing for the single coils should be similar to a jazz bass setup.

Interesting- has anyone dropped the Super pickups into a 435/535/635? Would love to hear more about this...

Yep, namuxtree's 635 up above has them, and I believe that TBer Vic had the Super 5 pickups put in a 535 that he used to have. I'd imagine this setup would sound similar to the Norm Stockton signature Saratoga but with differences in the EQ points since those are specific to that model, but I'll let the players who actually own(ed) this setup comment on it.

No, they'll be quite different. They're not low impedance (few windings and requiring a level raising and isolating buffer), so they'll have a smaller range of frequency detection/output - as traditional, high impedance pickup styles do. And they don't have the same coil configuration - 2 straight coils next to each other in the Super as opposed to reverse offset coils in the standard series (like a reverse P-bass pickup), so string sensing pattern will be different, too. The Super pickups are more traditional sounding pickups - more what you're used to hearing from a majority of builders and players. If you're into that and you want a typical dual coil or single coil sound, they'd be a good fit for you. If you dig the more high fidelity, clear sound of the standard MTD pickups, you won't be able to nail the same vibe with the Supers. They don't really compare directly; they're for different goals.
