i believe that might be the VERY storied MTD acoustic BASS guitar.I'm super curious about that acoustic guitar, even though I don't play AG. I know Mike is a guitarist first.
I did some woodshop stuff back in middle school and helped my dad build a gigantic 500 lb entertainment center in the 90s. Been a long time since I’ve smelled sawn wood but it’s a smell I always loved too… that and white out, and exhaust fumes from 60’s carbureted muscle cars, and patchouli, and zippo lighter fluid, and the Freedom cases from the late 90s that had that vanilla scent.I've always liked the smell of sawn wood. can’t wait to see this one completed. I noticed Daniel hasn’t posted any new MTDs on the IG page recently.Yeah, there are some WILD necks going on there. That's gotta be a Ukraine-themed bass...right?That Violet Flamed Maple Ebony neck iscan’t wait to see this one completed. I noticed Daniel hasn’t posted any new MTDs on the IG page recently.

If it is, he once said he MIGHT make them someday, and immediately he had a waiting list. Not sure the exact model name, as I think it might go back as far as the Eclipse days. It's been a while since it was discussed.
I was at the shop once when Dave Holland walked in to pick up an ABG that Mike had done some work on. I have no idea whether that ABG was an MTD or not - I was too busy trying to act casual (I was trying out a bass at the time and my volume dropped pretty quickly when I saw who had just walked through the doori believe that might be the VERY storied MTD acoustic BASS guitar.

I have a Skjold in the works with a similar piece of tiger myrtle! Beautiful wood. This may well be my 435 in the future. Still deciding, but I like this a lot.

I believe you have me beat for basses on order (I think you have at least 3?)- I’ve got 2- an MTD 535 (since October ‘21- should be getting close!) and a Sadowsky NYC 5 (from around the holidays, so I’m guessing at least 6 months still), so good on you, sir! I am intrigued by Skjolds as well, have yet to play one.I have a Skjold in the works with a similar piece of tiger myrtle! Beautiful wood.
Not to brag but I have a Skjold, Alpher, Fodera, and MTD on order. They're staggered a number of months apart. The Skjold will be first and I think it's going to be awesome.I believe you have me beat for basses on order (I think you have at least 3?)- I’ve got 2- an MTD 535 (since October ‘21- should be getting close!) and a Sadowsky NYC 5 (from around the holidays, so I’m guessing at least 6 months still), so good on you, sir! I for one stand in front of them, unsure of which one to play![]()
Not so much "instant gratification" then; more like "continuous gratification"?Not to brag but I have a Skjold, Alpher, Fodera, and MTD on order. They're staggered a number of months apart.
I considered swapping the B style for the A style, as well. After looking at the specs of the two bridges, though, Mike is certainly right. The screw centers are off, the height is different, and the length of travel on the saddles is shorter. I abandoned the idea, so don't have much help to offer a solution, but I can confirm the A style presents more problems than it fixes.Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well. It's been a while since I posted here.
I'm still rocking 2 535s, a Grendel and 2 Groove Shoppe GS5s with MTD licenced necks
I have a question which you may or may not be able to help me with, but you are my last resort...
My 535s are both standard 19mm string spacing with the hipshot B style bridge and I'd like to convert them to a 18mm spacing, but I have zero interest in drilling any holes in either bass.
I emailed Hipshot and Mike, and it seems like my only option is to replace the saddles on the bridge with some "threaded rod" style saddles. This is easily done, but they are pretty ugly, and so am looking for any other potential solutions.
A 19mm A style bridge would swap in directly i believe, and I know can be adjusted close enough to 18mm spacing, but Mike said, in a nutshell, that it would be in the wrong position, and the neck angle and intonation would be problematic.
So, my question, has anyone done this already with good results? If so how did you do it?
"Order a new MTD to your spec" is a valid answer, but sadly that's not going to happen just yet
Thanks,
G
