I{d go with D'addrio chromes. They are a bit hot at first, but really mellow out with use to a great warm tone. Also, they are extremely affordable. Put some foam at the bridge and you{re set.

EDIT: It also sounds fine with the cheap chinese pickups as well, I will someday upgrade it, but IMO atleast for this bass, the strings and the foam are what make the sound.

I've done some research before purchasing this bass, and I'm pretty sure this is a RS 924. The active/passive feature was listed under RS 924 in the Ibanez catalogues, as you can see here:

Also, the 940 is listed as a fretless model.

About the finish, the available options I could find were Brown Sunburst and Traditional Violion. Despite that, I've seen this same Natural finish on a RS 924 before.

I'm sorry Mr. Nominato. You're absolutely right about the 924/824/940 etc. issue:
The 824 is the passive version
The 924 is the active/passive version
The 840 is the passive fretless version
The 940 is the active/passive fretless version

I must have had a black-out. :hmm:

About the finish, though, I've never found proof that Ibanez did bring out a 'natural' finish of the model.
So every bass with that finish one can find must be a refinish/sand job (commisioned) by it's owner, I'm sure.
Untill proven wrong, of course... ;)

In case you're wondering, the Jazz Bass is the body from a Fender Standard J with a Warmoth wenge on wenge neck, passive EMG's and a Leo Quan Badass. The P-Bass is an unknown body (I believe it to be from a Squire) that I got off ebay, a Warmoth ebony on bubinga neck, and a custom wired p-bass pickup.
