It's actually a 1984 MIJ PJ-555 in gunmetal silver, but that paint is a chameleon and can look silver, gold, copper, green or white depending on the light.

I figured it was something MIJ.

Just finished putting this together. My vintage/modern take on a jazz bass. Warmoth body in fiesta red, warmoth neck in wenge with an ebony fretboard, fralin split jazz pickups, hip shot ultralite tuners. Still working out some electronic kinks and need to age some of the new hardware, but love the look so far.

Beautiful Bass - the GG 5 string seems like perfect blend of woods, and tones. There is not much video of it getting live action. I'm in seriously looking at maple neck version, but unable to find much in full band mix videos. Would you happen to know the string spacing? Cheers!

The Yamaha was my first bass too. I've never had to adjust the neck, ever. It's wonderful. I'm going to throw some new pickups in there and bring it back to life. It's often more fun to play than my expensive basses.

Exactly! When I got to the point where I thought I needed to upgrade I shopped around for months, tried every p-bass under the sun including mia fenders. Nothing felt as playable as my trusty rbx! So I slapped in some new pots(500k tone & 250k volume) and the 62 pups. They gave the bass exactly what it needed to make it an all around machine. I’m glad you saved yours!

Man that sounds like a beauty! Lately I’ve been thinking of taking my heat gun to it and scraping the paint to reveal the wood grain. Also toying with the idea of adding an MM pickup by the bridge

That’s an old picture, I promise it’s since been fixed that particular string was taken off another of my basses and if I would have tried to change its bend it surely would’ve snapped

Very nice setup and a beautiful Precision.
Good choice with the Pelican. My 6010
carries everything but the bass and cab.
Easy life.

Got me a new Home Depot work table that is adjustable to standing height. It’s great for working on the fiddles. So this ‘96 s series hasn’t had a dressing since 1996 Until today! I was able to work the crown back up and they polished out nicely. She’s set at 4x 64th on the E and 3 x 64ths on the G. That is low and no buzz. It’s perfect! Some fresh chromes. Should be good for another 27 years
