How's that DJ5? I see them on Reverb occasionally and wonder if it should get one.
It's the best fiver I've tried so far. I've had a few. I even preferred this over a Sting Ray Special I was thinking about getting. That says a lot. Both great basses, this one just sat better for the style of music we play. Everything will depend on the sound you're going for. I would say the Lakland is much like a growly Fender J, but slightly darker. Sounds great paired with a good preamp and compressor if needed.
That said, it's a great bass, 10 years ago, if that makes sense. Lakeand needs to upgrade many things. Pickups need serious improvement.

Maybe this really deserves it's own thread honestly, but here we go.
I've had a few today and I have usually refrained in later years from making posts on the internet about cool stuff I have been lucky enough and blessed to somehow acquire. But, since I have had a few, and am pleasantly happy about this re-acquisition, I am going to share some photos with you all. (I know there are way to many commas in that sentence sorry)
I sold this Warwick to @CeeJ back in 2020 for some ******** reason. You can find the reason in the pics below but anyway. It was a legit reason I should have just outrighted, but I thought I needed to offset. In 2023, I contacted him and was like. "Hey you know that bass I sold you"
You can probably guess how that went. And if you guessed wrong. I found him in a vulnerable position and pounced that beautiful blonde ass all the back home. (If you know him you can decide if I mean him or the bass.)
This bass started out as a 1 of 4 Dolphin basses in 99 made by Warwick with Birdseye Maple. Someone out here on Talkbass has one of the 4 strings. Someone in Kuzurkastan has the other 4 they kinda shaged up hard on eBay right now. IDK if it would be worth trying to work back or not. Go do a search if interested. Then there is one that is out there in the wild that I think is probably CeeJ 5 string. Then there is this one. Which is now mine again for now. CeeJ and me have a deal that we will keep it between the two of us for as long as we can. Now all of this is 100% unverified. But ya know. Most of it lines up.
But CeeJ has a ridiculous imagination and took this bass to the next level.
So he took this and did some/alot of stuff to it since I had it first and wow. The neck, body shaping, the color. I would have went with a red (because it's my sucker color) but honestly I would have never thought to do any of this to begin with. I love that you can still see the wood under the stain. He took this Custom Shop to another level and honestly I do love the color.

Maruszczyk Frog, Maruszczyk Elwood, Maruszczyk Jake, Yamaha BB734A, Ibanez SR605E and Squier CV ‘60s Mustang which is an extra I don’t really need.
Just finished this. Got it way cheap outta Spain. 2020 Roger Sadowsky Design MetroExpress. Needed some love, and it got it. Lotsa Mmwwwaaah. Lots.
How do the zen blades compare to the big breaks in your Ibanez?
Zen Blades = very clear and articulate, excellent especially if wired in series/parallel/single coil with two switches like my Frog. A lot of versatility! Quote from Nordstrand: “Wired in parallel, the pickup delivers a broad range of character, with its even, clear, and articulate nature manifesting in its purest form. In series, the aperture narrows, causing the tone to become a bit thicker, a little bit bolder, while still retaining the even and clear quality inherent to the pickup.” I’m satisfied with them.
Big Breaks = rounder/woody tone, slightly higher output. Works well with the low B string.
IMHO of course, also both pickups are humcancelling which is great.

Ebony poly stain. The board was a blotchy mess when I got it.
My latest acquisition, it sounds and looks great, even before getting cleaned and new strings. It has a very in-your-face kind of sound, compared to all my other basses, very growly and punchy, so I am happy.

Well here is my birsdeye maple Dolphin also from 99. Never realised it was only 1 of 4. Sadly not with me any more - located in London now if memory serves me right...
That's the story I was told. Not sure 100% but there aren't many.
Been playing this Adam Clayton P as my main bass for most things here lately and the past couple of years. Got lucky in a trade with it. My other main bass is a 74-75 P in Sunburst with flats - but this Adam Clayton gets the most time by far!
Nice. That one is on my short list. I have the purple flake AC Jazz and kinda want the set.
No need for a disco ball hanging on the ceiling with such bass ! Very nice.
Hi y'all new to the forum. So in 1983 I bought a late 70s Goya Jazz Bass Copy, I believe Model JB-1. Made in Japan and very good quality. It had Maxon(?) humbuckers and a sweet neck profile. I sold it the same year in Iowa (near Des Moines) because I needed money etc. Since then I have focused on guitar but recently wanted to get back into bass. In my first online search I found THE SAME BASS, 40 years later, on sale at GC in West Des Moines. I am now the proud repeat owner.

FTR, Maxon is an Aussie brand so it's got pu's from... (wait for it...) down under. (bass/low/bottom/)
