Here's a (demo) piece by my Moscow born friend Konstantine Baranov that I tracked fretless bass on - at one point the 'vamping' goes long - that was available space for overdubbed solo's.

Thanks, much! That was with my former February 1967 4005WB. Most likely the strings were D'Addario XLs, but they could be Reds or even GHS Boomers. I was messing around with all those strings back then.

If "left to my own devices"... I tend to gravitate to your style of playing. As always it depends on the needs of the composers' song what I play. It sounds like you are the composer and bass-player here. Cool.

Yes, I, and my friend, Steve, contributed to most of this music. Some of the music is just my own. Steve wrote and sang the lyrics and guitar (even flute on a couple songs), I wrote bass and guitar parts. Some songs Steve just left me with the tapes with his vocals and acoustic guitar part(s) on them and I would write bass and guitar (electric) parts and I did the recording and mixing, and added reverb where desired.

My/our songs, too, left room for adding solos, or vocals or drum parts, that is why sections run rather long without much or any changes for many measures.

Today is G&L day at my place. USA M-2000 in Blackburst and a new Tribute JB-2 in Sonic Blue. I've owned three G&L's in the past and sold them pretty quickly because I just didn't bond with them. However these two are both very nice and sound completely different from each other. Which I like so maybe these will be staying this time. Maybe old dogs can learn new tricks?

Interesting (new/modern) Peavey amp - is it 1x15"? How many watts? I like that they are using the original 'edgy' Peavey logo graphics.

That combo is the Max 150. 150 watts with a single 12. Pretty darn loud and has a good feature set. Pretty much everything you would need as far as inputs and outputs. Decent trans tube overdrive circuit contour switch bright switch bass boost even has a tuner built in. Also it has a external speaker jack. No Tweeter in the cab but it has plenty of highs. One unusual thing is that the speaker baffle board is mounted in the cabinet on an angle so it naturally points up at you that's why it has that weird grill cloth that curves up over the top of the amp. Actually pretty nice overall I haven't used any Peavey gear since the '80s so I thought why not.

I got this Sterling By MusicMan SUB Ray 4 Bass this week, and I'm really digging it. Its a pre 2018? model I believe due to having the old style SUB logo. I was on the look out for a MusicMan style bass for a while, and this popped up and with it being white sealed the deal so I bought it. Also a pic next to my Dad's black Stingray Special

Now I really like the look of the rosewood fretboard with the sonic blue body. And since the Sonic blue is a tribute series if I were to pull that neck and put it on the blackburst bass which is a USA it would critically devalue that one

I understand devaluing in terms of price, but maybe, apart from the new look, you will also like the sound... I would try to replace it just to check any new advantages... You can always go back to the base/unless the mounting is different...

To Me,dark natural woods beg for the complement of gold hardware.
Doing the EHB probably won't happen.
Can't get gold single string headless tuners.
At least not yet.

Interesting - I played a gig tonight at an SF venue and they offered a Marshal MB150 'combo' bass amp as a back-line. It's not a small space so I brought my own rig because I couldn't imagine a 150w amp being loud enough. (and it has a 15" speaker!) Because they had a substantial FoH, I brought my tc electronics BG250 112 combo amp. At 250w it was tuned up to 12:00 (gain & master) which delivered a nice clean on-stage volume. The Marshal is a bigger/heavier rig... the tc electronic combo amp is smaller and lighter, but sounds really good.
