That is a Steve McDonald .Steve McDonald Basses I just picked up from a TB'r , he had saved up the woods and Steve built it . It's an amazing sounding and playing instrument . Really impressive little bass.

Scored a MIM jazz on an eBay auction for 247$. Guy took great care of it and set up perfectly.

I’ve been reading about SX basses for awhile. I decided to get one. The price point was attractive. This is one beautiful bass. I like the old school covers and thumb rest. In my quest to test drive different sounds, I put La Bella Tapewounds on, thanks to a suggestion from another cat here. It set up and intonated fine. It sustains for a very long time. I don’t know if it’s the covers or the strings. The tuners were prone to hanging up, but they seem to have loosened up. The great thing about being a beginner, is everything sounds cool and any bass I get my hands on, is the best bass ever!

The first "backup" bass I ever bought was an SX Jazz short scale. I assumed I would use it only in an emergency if something came up with my Fender, but I found I liked it alot. Great tone, stayed in tune well. It was a great bass for the price point.

Despite its momentous appearance, it's not really that good (who'd have thunk?). I gotta decide whether it's worth shimming the neck and replacing the bridge and tuners.

Fun to play, though, and it doesn't sound bad on a good day.

Another body refinish, courtesy of the nice people at mjtagedfinishes. The neck swap is the RW Dirnt, so this one is ready to rock with the Fralin split coil pup.
