Despite its momentous appearance, it's not really that good (who'd have thunk?). I gotta decide whether it's worth shimming the neck and replacing the bridge and tuners.

Fun to play, though, and it doesn't sound bad on a good day.

Frankly that would translate to "liquidate" in my book...

If one goes the Squire route, what is the hierarchy for upgrading (if there is one)?

Pups?
Electronics?
Tuners?
Bridge?

Is that the order? I have played a few squire jazz in stores and they "feel" pretty darn good... apart from the above, i might consider stripping the neck and doing a tru oil finish...

Let me put it this way, todays basses of most all price ranges are decent and we live in a modding culture with an glut of available aftermarket parts. A good sounding amp with good settings, a set of strings of your preference, a bass that's well set-up and good (player) technique - and a Squier J or P or Jag (to name only a few Fender style basses) will sound good, really good if played well.

Well, it sounds like you may be in a position to wipe the slate clean and start afresh by replacing everything with acceptable gear. Could be a game-changer for your playing.

... looks really cool, though! At the headstock... the 'tuners' are basically string vises?

Yes. They're essentially string locks that will hold the end of the string and allow you to cut it flush on the back.

Oh geez, that Gretsch bass is making me drool on my KB. I totally love my Gretsch guitars but alas, I'm a lefty and they don't make basses for us folk.

I have many (too many) and need to thin the collection. But here is a Fender Jazz 5-string parts bass I assembled last weekend - the neck from my 2011 MIM jazz bass joined to a recently purchased 2017 American Standard body, Ulyate pickups, RawSound Varitone control plate (passive).

Just got this Streamer for 300 buckeroos. It's got the new Wenge fretboard, and it's in great shape. Looks brand new.

The Streamer is gonna stay at home, and the Corvette is gonna live at my band's practice space.

Just traded for a G&l Tribute. Needs some work on the setup. Thing had two year old flats and was in a closet for two years. Gave it a setup but still not happy with it, so just going to have a pro do it so I have a basic guide.

The tones are great, just need to figure out all the switches. Thing is really nice and the quality is great, especially at this price point

I just dug up this thread, it *might* tell you your controls, but I might also be trying too hard to be helpful and be giving you bad intel.... If so, my apologies...
